Quick question, I know nothing is certain yet but is anyone running alpha with and AMD FX-41xx quad core? I only ask because I have one and am concerned because strictly speaking I think it's a dual core.

Here is a quote from Michael : "I know there's been some discussion about the machine specs needed for the alpha test, as we're approaching the first build delivery I can share some of the development specs of where we are at the moment. Optimisation and performance are obviously ongoing tasks and as more features are added through the alpha and beta periods we'll need to keep revisiting it. To play the first build released in December we're currently looking at the following: Direct X 11 Quad Core CPU ( 4 x 2Ghz is a reasonable minimum) 2 GB System Ram (more is always better) DX 10 hardware GPU, 1GB video RAM(my reasonably low end machine has a GTX 285 with 2GB) As I say we're looking to try and reduce the spec if possible through detail options and optimisations, so the final min spec for the game should be lower than that stated above, but for the initial alpha tests you'll need to be in that range. Edit: Minimum video ram spec updated to 1GB. Michael"

Yeah I read that but I come back to the same issue.
I may be wrong but my reading of the AMD FX-41xx series is that it's a physical dual core with two logical cores running on each, hence 4 logical cores.
FD have always stated "Quad core at 2ghz" but is the AMD "quad" core good enough or should I be looking at a future cheap upgrade the to AMD FX-81xx which is a quad core with 8 logical cores?
Again this is all from the bits I've gleaned off the Internet so feel free to put me straight.

Thanks Carl

I read that the serial FX 4xxx is a real physical quad core. There are two modules, each modules receives 2 real physical core. The modules are here to mutualize some features. Thus your processor is a real physical quad core.

For your information, 1 physical core is also a logical core. Your AMD has 4 physicals cores which are also 4 logicals cores. FX8xx has 8 physicals cores which are also 8 logicals cores. For exemple the Intel 4770 is a processor with 4 physicals cores and 8 threads, so 8 logicals cores. Your AMD is a 4 physicals/logicals cores and 4 thread

Space is black

Glad to see some really interesting cpu stuff being talked about on here I think most modern cpus should be able to cope unless your running a I486 after all its pretty easy to render black lol

Ahh I see, thanks very much for that. I'll hold off any upgrades until it's released then and I can look at the graphics card instead.

You are right, your AMD serie FX4xx, is powerful enough to execute properly ED. As you say, spend your money on the graphics card
