Is there anyway to set up a 1v1 or private groups on CQC? Be great to do so , currently when sparing friends we just go to 50% hull in open mode .

Why not ask in that forum - or is that as deserted as the arcade game itself?
In theory if you form two squads of four, then have the squad leaders hit join for the same mode at the same time, you might get an effectively private match of 8. Not particularly reliable, though (most likely to work for Capture The Flag as it's rarely played). Also, you need exactly eight people to make it work.
No way to get a 1v1 - the minimum start for deathmatch is 4 players. (You could start with 4 and then have two quit, I suppose, but it doesn't stop anyone else joining)
