CQC Combat - Will Skill Trump Meta ?

From what I have seen the available ships aren't the type that have slots for excessive SCB's, or Boosters for that matter.
 
True, but if there is a tradeoff between low alpha high shields and high alpha low shields which way will the meta go...

That depends of Meta is lighter than Air or not....

Until we can try the ships I don't think there is much we can speculate on, too little info

It has been hinted that the
Condor has Speed & Manoeuvre
Eagle has Fire Power
Sidewinder has resilience (and gimbals?)

But what does that really say when we cannot actually experience the differences?

I don't see any of the ships having shield cells at all honestly.

This is an Arena after all, perfect imbalance will be the aim

Assuming the old table top RPG definition still carries over


Players using Game rules and numbers and attributes to devise a tactic or strategy

what the knowledge the in game Pilot would know.

The current meta is dominated by shields and shield potions. As long as you have shields, you are immune to the entire universe.

There's no reason to think that CQC will be different. Every ship will equip its best shield and as many potions it can fit inside, since presumably, you won't need cargo nor other internals in CQC.

The scale may be smaller, but the tactics will remain the same. Barring, of course, a revision to combat mechanics.

From the sounds of it the mechanics will be different with these dumb "powerups" and ships even handling differently than they do in the real game.
