R: Add a waiting lobby that says how many players are playing or an estimate waiting list, and add spectator role.
Long read:
So, let's be honest there: CQC is actually an amazing, fast paced and fun gameplay. It really is, it is enjoyable, you get your adrenaline pumping, and when you manage (IF you manage) to get in a team deathmatch with a team that coordinates using voicecomms... Oh my holy merci, babe! That's what I'm talking about!
So, why doesn't it work? Why people are not playing it? Let's summarize:
1st) The lack of information for the wait.
Right now we lack of any information regarding how long we will have to wait to start playing... and many people simply won't play. Seriously, FD, is it that difficult? I'm not asking for much! Just put a side window that says how many games are being played right now and the ETA for the ending of each one. See? Easy! If in team deathmatch says that there is jut one game that just started, I know I will have to wait for its ending, so I may move to capture the flag where there are a number of games, some of them about to end.
See? I'm not a programmer (hell, I can barely program my drive spreadsheets with java) but this cannot be that difficult! Can it?
2nd) External gamers cannot really enjoy the beauty of the game.
At this point, the only way to share externaly this game is to record yourself in-game and stream or posting it on youtube... and it is nice, really, but not great. External viewers can't really experience what is it like to be in a dogfight, what the rest of the team is doing, or have a good spatial sense of what is going on. You need to actually know the game to enjoy it....
Now we have the camera suite, and I feel that's what we need! An spectator role! A player that will not be piloting any ship, but simply connect to watch a match! Imagine then a guy just streaming CQC tournaments, while narrating them as the best soccers matches of the year! The camera could be free, giving a general view of the battlefield, or focus on each of the 8 players alternatively to follow the action! The camera could rotate around the ship to follow how someone is getting on its tail, or how his colleagues are protecting him/her while the flag is being carried!
Frontier, please, CQC is a really great game! Give it a bit of TLC and it will become a game that many, many people will enjoy!
