Someone here mentioned that CQC should have entryfee and the winner takes the prize. I am in favour for that. There should be at least 3 differenst skill levels like A, AA and most skilled pilots in AAA class. Secret rating value could direct cmdr's to right tournament regarding difficulty. I hope you get what I mean
I was the one to suggest it.
but there is no reason for secrecy. Just have different category tournaments.
for example:
Novice CQC Tournament: 10 000cr entryfee
Master CQC Tournament: 1 000 000cr entry fee
Elite CQC Tournament: 10 000 000cr entry fee
have the rewards scale with total number of players signed up. More pilots sign up for the tournament => Higher price for the winner. (Every thing should be tested and balanced to the in-game economy of course)
If you have the money you can enter. No need to have any limitations.
Obviously, having the money does not mean that you have the skill.
P.S.
Lower level Tournaments would be mainly about winning the price, therefore they would have a higher pay out rate for winning. (lets say 0.1x"number of commanders"x "entryfee" with minimum of 100x reward)
Where as higher category tournaments would be more about the prestige of winning one. (Elite tournaments reward would be between 1.2x- 5x of entryfee depending on the number of commanders+ other rewards like Gal Net article maybe some special paintjob etc.)
I feel that a set up like this would make it an interesting mechanic + a good money sink for commanders. and still feel rewarding
