CQC CQC?

I'm finding this rather frustrating.

I start attacking an enemy in TD, whittling him down, only for an ally to come in and claim the kill?!?

I took out nearly all his hull and I get an assist!

Is it that old story again of last shot kill?

It's not quite like that, from what I have read and observed it's based on how much damage you do over a particular period of time. As long as you consistently do damage this timer refreshes so.. even if they get the last shot you will get the kill credit.

That's what I have noticed and what others have reported but no official word as far as I know.

That's not quite consistent with my experience. My experience has been similar to the OPs, unfortunately.

I was consistently hitting this guy, but another came in and claimed the kill. He only had a hand full of shots. It's still happening. Puts me right off.

Also, has targeting sub-systems been removed?

I'm finding this really out of balance. I'm coming up against guys ranked much higher up. I have no chance.

Then I find myself against ones who have no chance against me.

Perhaps there are actually very few people playing cqc.

I selected tdm the other night and it took ages to load and then I found myself in dm fight.

But yes ive noticed rank 15 and rank 1on same instance. Is there anyway of seeing the number of players logged in to cqc similiar to seeing number of players on servers in other multi player games?

To the OP: really, really you are mad because working as a team, your team destroyed another commander? In my opinion "stealing" kills it's just a juvenile way to view this. Also in my experience only kids in FPS's cry because of "stealing" kills, they cannot see the bigger picture. The objective of the game is win the game as a team; if you have another agenda you can change the game type; if you chose to play a team game please don't come here and cry about your imaginary rules of engagement.

I've noticed it too. I did at least 90% damage, then a team mate finished off. They got the kill, I got the assist. It could be server lag, but it doesn't appear to be so in this instance. In team deathmatch I'm not fussed so much (i.e., teamwork), but it would be nice if the highest percentage of hits got the kill instead of last hit.

And if you shot a player for 90% damage and after this that player is still manage to kill another players from your team? In my opinion this system is the best, only last shot counts as a valid kill.

I've noticed it too, but whenever I get mad at it, I remember that sometimes it works in my favour too.
There does seem to be some large combo of factors contributing, and occasionally it makes the 'wrong' decision.

I agree. The environment is more dynamic and your situation can change instantly: it's all swings and roundabouts TBH. Many a time I have broken off an attack when on the receiving end, but, as long as my team wins, so what? In TDM the emphasis is on team.

Actually ranking means nothing more than they have been in the game longer than you have, it should give you an idea of how experienced the player is but the rank system doesn't make a player harder to kill like in mmos, it only gives them access to different equipment...

..and I say different not better because it is all a balance in how you set up your ship... more armour.. different weapens, shields etc, I played the first 20 levels in beta in pretty much the starter ship is it is probably the best available but remember to upgrade it as things become available.

It's all down to personal preference in ship and experience of playing the actual game that makes you a good player or not, FD have done a brilliant job of making it skill based rather than level based.

You get matched in game via an algorithm which works out how good a player you are probably based on kill/death ratio and other stuff so you can be a rank 5 and see a rank 30 in game, he's there because you are a match in skills according to how FD's calculation works.

It is the old MMO feeling though when you see someone with a higher ranking than you, you expect him to be better so the psychology works against you when you take him on expecting him to annhiliate you, best way to approach it is to just take on anyone in the game and assess their skills based on how they perform.

Simple, but truly effective.
