CQC CQC.

Played it yesterday during the Devs stream for the first time ever and although I didn't make it in time to play with the devs there was enough people after the stream to have a few good matches, however, I tried joining today and couldn't find a lobby.

It's a super fun mode, classic dogfight, nothing more nothing less. No crazy PvP builds or engineers frankensteins, just small ships dogfighting. How come people doesn't play it more? Are there any plans to put it inside the main game as a Station Service option? Or maybe some specific systems to hold CQC matches and/or races?

As a game in it's own right, it is too simple to hold my attention for long. If I want to play a dedicated pvp game I will have much more fun playing something like Planetside 2.

Therefore I only go there is two scenarios.

1. Playing the devs, so I can say 'hi mom' on the internets
2. During long duration exploration when I need a change of pace

CQC is like threads on this forum... every time you're convinced it's dead, some necromancy brings it back for a little bit.

If I play CQC for 3 hours, will I achieve more than tugging 700t of cargo back and forth or running engineer missions in my cutter in the main game? When I mean achieve more, i mean, like, credits, reputation ship upgrades etc. If the answer is no, you'll not get anywhere what you would in the main game... I have to ask myself is that time investment worth it in my limited capacity to play video games in a week?

It sounds like a fun mode, will give it a try this weekend I think.

It is a super fun mode in between the 1+ hour wait for even 3 other players to arrive and start a deathmatch, never ever been able to play free-for-all or capture-the-flag as there is just a massive lack of players

The reason you can't catch a game is because you currently have to choose between playing the main game and waiting in a static lobby. If they added the CQC lobby to the Multicrew menu so you could play the game while you waited for a match, then we'd have 24/7 CQC rounds across the globe. I mean all you need is 8 people with the itch out of millions of potential Elite players. All Frontier needs to do to make this a reality is lower the cost of entry by moving the waiting "room" to your cockpit.

Games are about having fun, remember? Everything you do in the game you do it for X profit? Sounds like a very boring way of playing a "game".

Agreed, also a mixed-mode waiting lobby would be a massive addition tbh, I am not at all bothered which of the types of matches I play as long as it doesn't take my evening waiting!!

As a temporary measure, we could just create a forum thread saying something like 'CQC match at around 09:00' (using the gametime). That way people know about it and could react on it.

It's mario in space. Power Ups, really? Auto aim, really? add to that 5 minute wait times or longer and the same 20 people playing it and yeah, no thanks. A gimmick purely made to bring in the xbox crowd and has nothing to do with the game.

Hey, let's build a pew pew space ship game into a spaceship game about taking your time to do al lthe stuff in the galaxy - who were they marketing too? Which "crowd" did they think would pick this up? Obviosuly not the ED crowd because it's empty.

And now we have HoloMe lol ;)

I can't check this seeing as I'm at work, but I do believe it's possible to choose who you play with but not who you play against. If they could just add this one little tweak it would make a world of difference to the game, especially if you could tell Arena that the three players you want to play against are enough, and just start the game.

No need. There is already a growing community of CQC players who co-ordinate matches together on the CQC discord. Link is in my sig. if you would like to join.

Having said that, the way to reliably get a match on the PC is to try Death Match between about 17:00 and 00:00. UTC.

You CAN form squads that keep players together though only in team death match I think. I would urge you to try without a squad though as you are more likely to get games and in any case, the majority of regular CQC players are a pretty chilled out bunch who don't fly about swatting newbies. In fact, newbies are usually left pretty much alone unless they attack first. Usually ;)

I played a bit of CQC when it was first Beta'd. It was good fun but ultimately not my cup of tea long term. Rather play the 'proper' game. Seems a lot of people thought the same.

Now if there was a CQC 'signal source' here and there where you could drop in and have a quick bout, maybe get a few creds and be on your way it may provide a novel distraction. Obviously there's the whole what if nobody is in the system thing. But I suppose Telepresence could answer that. Maybe dock at a small station in the SS and them telepresence to a full 'arena'.

Not saying I would necessarily play but got more chance than if I had to log into a separate 'game'.

@Scoopy Doopy: Ah good, will be doing that then. I'm really bad at combat atm, CQC sounds like the perfect way to improve dogfighting skills without risking anything in the main game while also still be in ED but with a change of pace.

Last time I was into multiplayer gaming it was with a Quake 3 Arena mod called Painkeep Arena, miss those days. :)

I hope you join the discord. You'll find it pretty civilized.

You may find the game frustrating at first because you will die a fair bit and you'll think it is because your opponents must have vastly better loadouts. This is not the case and indeed, some of the top players will have pretty much the same ships as you when you are level 1. However, they may have power ups which you can get in the game and they will probably be quite good at flying fighters :)

Even Elite CQC pilots die quite a lot too :)

As long as I don't get rebuy costs it's fine with me. I used to play top players in that game Painkeep Arena, where I ended up losing 30-2 while still being very happy about getting the two kills! :) It's all about having fun with the challenge and finding your own play style.

it is a blast in VR :)

OMG - you have Captain Future's ship as your avatar! That brings back memories!

You get quite good fairly quickly in CQC and can at least be a threat to high level players pretty soon. Just remember to take the power up and not chaff until you actually need to.

You won't even get close to the same amount of credits. But if that's what's stopping you you've entirely missed the point of CQC (and possibly of playing games at all! :))
