CQR - Close Quarter Racing.

So we lack some end game stuff to test pilot flying skill.

With CQC it gave me an idea. Close Quarter Racing.

Imagine an asteroid belt with lanes in it for racing. That gap will only fit one ship, damn, sry bud, I got to bump you out the way, boom.

An old station and we have to race through the offices and living quarters, flying through broken glass or through the huge ventilation pipes and fly between the broken blades of fans. A wrong turn and its a working fan and no way through.

An old Orbis station and put a race track in the big circular bit, dodging pillars, dead trees and old dead frozen astronauts. Hit one and your canopy cracks.

No guns, just speed, agility and ofc ramming. :D Wanna get the lead, bump him out the way, maybe he will hit that pillar and go splat or slow down.

Make it a challenge. Make it hard but not impossible. I'm sure you can come up with ideas. Make it a competitive sport. Like the olympics, who you belong to doesn't matter, this is independant from powers and factions.
Put it in the real galaxy, so players feel it's real and part of the game.
They could be several race tracks dotted around the galaxy, each one is different. All have their own rankings.
Maybe drag an old derelict station and put it in those none systems where there is no population.

There needs to be some way of watching the races and selecting different viewing cameras. Or maybe not.
Maybe you have to find and wait for players to compete, it will get players asking in local for a race.

It doesn't have to be virtual, it could be with real ships, maybe we purchase or hire one and spec it for the race. Loose it and have to buy another one, finish the race maybe we can hand it back in. Or just have to pay the repairs if there are any.
A bit like going to a go-kart track and hiring the go-kart and track.
Or compare it to Red Bull racing with those airplanes. Pilots get to show off skill and compete.

You see, FD forget what an MMO is. It has the main game but when players are fatigued or burnt out the worst thing you can do is introduce another grind. (Looking at you PP).
It's meant to have lots of other mini content to play. Somewhere we can go relax and chill and still have fun and none of the rest of the galaxy is impeded from normal business.
Or like in some other games you may have a normal dungeon for example but then there is that other dungeon that only vets would dare enter.

Do you think there could be a desire for this kind of content? A fun content but serious content, away from the daily grind every time you log in.

Ah well :D

I didn't know FD had already added racing to the game.
I thought it was some made up race around a station exterior and buckyball run to Sag A*.

They haven't added it. It is a player organised event. I only mentioned it because I think yes people do appear to desire it.

I'm totally down with this idea, was thinking of something similar a while back. Way I'd do is would be more like time trials using beacons projecting holographic way points. Would be real easy to implement and I can see no downsides. You could have a leaderboard in the local news. Would be real nice to have a non violent way to test your pilot skill.

Exactly what I thought. A no pew pew test of pilot flying.

There is definitely a demand for that. Besides it might not be too hard to add some rings and/or holograms in an asteroid field!

would be great to see it incorporated as game generated content too.

I think it would be nice if you could just park up and enter a race and it felt like it was part of a living galaxy.
I don't mind it being virtual and accessible from anywhere, after all, it must be nice for say an explorer to just take a break.
Maybe he don't feel like logging in and exploring that night but he may do some races and carry on exploring the next day.

+1 to that.
Thought about that as well for the last few days.

Set up tracks in debris fields or asteroid belts and finally put good use to the Sidey and Eagle.
