Cracked industrial firmware

I get them from passenger mission rewards normally, but no data after a scan would indicate from data storage is full, check in the right panel under inventory

Definitely not full 492/500.
I've never seen them as a mission reward in all the time I've been playing which is why I went off trying to find em. It's my 3rd evening in a row and I've got nothing to show for it other than 1 destroyed SRV.

Well at least that's something. :D

I've only picked up a handful of CIF from scanning, though I've never gone out specifically looking for it. Missions seem to stock me up on it quite nicely, and I always have a supply to hand. The higher grade materials are only given as rewards when you are friendly (I think) or allied with the faction giving the mission.

Haha yeah that's true! I actually lost my ASP first time as well but I didn't want to admit that out of embarrassment. I run passenger missions in Sol where I'm allied with all minor factions but never saw CIF as reward.
So is scanning a data point all you need to do when entering + or ++ settlements? Or do I need to do something else as well?

They were removed as a reward. But Dom put them back again recently. The mission rewards are definitely there. I've never scanned for them, but I have plenty. You can get as many as 4 in a mission. The best way to get good missions is to become allied with several factions in a system. takes a few days, but does pay off.

It does so happen that, from time to time, you don't get CIF or other data from these data points, but rather Intel Packages, which is super annoying.
Also, are you sure you collected all the data points in the time allotted? Some facilities have a lot more data points than others.

FWIW: I havent seen them since 2.4. Could be just a coincidence.

They've definitely been given out in the last week or so, as I have more than I did (and have only been doing missions). I had 3 last week as I'd just done some engineering. Happened to spot I've got over 20 today. Might have to do some more engineering. :)

Though I haven't done any passenger missions... Just smuggling and planetary scans (possibly a couple of normal delivery runs too).

There's a current discussion about this in Engineers. I find base running to be very effective. Bear in mind with the base runs that you have to scan ALL data points in a base to get the data, perhaps that is what you meant when you said you aren't getting any data from scanning. If you don't scan all points in the time allowed you don't get anything. I like these base runs, some people hate em. Good luck. :)

No! I only scanned the first one, no wonder I didn't get anything... OK so my next question is how the heck can you scan them all without getting destroyed? I find I'm peppered by a ship (and turrets) as soon as I get fined for trespassing (which occurs at about the same time I scan the first data point). If I run away the ship chases me to ends of the earth and I have to re-log to stop dying. If I hang around to scan the rest I wont last long again those star destroyers. :p Any tips or techniques appreciated. Thank you.

Please explain, as there's nothing listed under "Dav's Hope", system or station...

Dav's Hope is an abandoned settlement on planet A5 in the Hyades Sector dr-v c2-23 lat 44.8/-31.3 long.

It is a bit difficult to find the first time, as there's no marker and no activity. Get to that lat/long and then lower the ship to about 1km or less and eyeball it. There are some data points and a lot of materials laying around. It does rinse-and-repeat.

SOMEtimes people have a marker for it the next time they visit and some don't. Not sure, as I have only visited it once.

Oh yeah - you might see a sign for Hobbes Hope - it appears as if the name was changed later on; it's Dav's though.

That was first place I went to and didn't find CIF there. Also most of the materials laying around weren't rare.

I've been seeing crack show a fair amount as a mission reward. Data missions I think. I've also got these scanning public points, not very common though.

You will find a abandoned mining town there, there is a data point that gives a stack of data types. I got 33 in around an hour a couple of hours ago now plus it also offers many material types as well randomly spawned around the sight. CIF's are not the most common data there but they do drop regularly when you re log.

Edit: sorry didn't see the above post but it definitely does give Cracked Industrail Firmware as mentioned I just got stack of them there.
