Funny thing is...

I once, for a few Seconds actually heard that "Contact" SFX type while sitting over 1300LY above SOL and spending some time listening to the various background noises the Galaxy gives in different spots.
That SFX ran in in waves and got louder and louder by the Second.

The only problem was - I got so freaked out (this hit me like a hammer and out of nowhere) that I actually janked the HOTAS.
Spent over an hour hunting it - but never got it back.

The only thing I know is that it was located some 5-10deg above and to the side of the Coalsack Nebula (at the time of occurence Ship wasn't pointed at any visible other Nebula or distinct Object). Got nothing to narrow it down any further, so it's not very useful.

Needless to say, the return trip back down had a slightly frustrating touch to it. Never felt so frustrated in-game before. Still could slap myself today for losing that.

Its always nebula related, I suspect that explorers are going to be tempted to go there, perhaps take an artifact there

I had another idea....maybe the sound is not a code at all in the normal sense. Maybe its just a clue that if you hear a sound like this...the Thargoids are near. Its just the sound that Thargoids make. Like if you are in the jungle and you hear a lion's roar - you don't know what is being said, you just know a lion is close by. So perhaps we just need to be listening more closely while we are moving around the ED galaxy.....maybe?

yeah thats good, perhaps falcon fly was at a certain distance too, like they can come to you if your far out enough, maybe the noises only work at certain distances

now - the reason I've been thinking about this - is that I've heard very similar sounds (without the purring) when docked at a particular outpost. Reilly outpost in Gliese 868 to be exact. I can't get anyone to take me seriously tho. I've been playing since December and I've visited quite a lot of outposts and I've never heard this noise anywhere else. All I'm hoping is that someone else will dock there (on the surface) and listen. Maybe its a bug - Maybe its just something odd in my computer - I don't know.

That's the sound of the thargoids who have missed the migration through RAXXLA and are still trying to find it or the human female who will lead them to freedom.

i might take a trip out there and have a listen...

maybe its mermaids trying to trap wayward sailors...

So I searched the mega thread and didnt notice (though I could have easily missed it in those hundreds of pages) if any one had an artifact in there hold and tried to jump to Polaris? Maybe being one system off and the artifact will act like a permit and let you in? Or maybe dropping the artifact into space 1 jump away (closest jump possible) from Polaris and seeing if it changes the sound?
