General Creating player demand for commodities

If you could convert commodities into materials, would that fix a lot of aspects of Elite Dangerous?

Suddenly people would have something to do with all of their credits.

Commodity production could be limited so that a system only only produces 5-10 different commodities.

Power play could offer better buy prices for commodities in systems that your power controls. This would incentivize players trying to capture systems that produce the commodities they need.

There would be a player demand for commodities which would make fleet carriers useful because you could buy commodities at low prices and move them in bulk to somewhere with demand.

As it is now, I would only buy commodities for trading, and I know that fleet carriers will either have a bad price, or the fleet carriers commander is loosing money.

I like the idea to incentivise powerplay players to try for systems producing what they need.

With base building looking like a possibility soon, I'd love to see a way for chemicals, metals and minerals being able to turn into other commodities. These can then be turned into ship modules to be sold from fleet carriers and bases. Add in player to player transactions this will add much needed player interactions.

It's quite possible as it is now for a fleet carrier to offer you 4k/tonne to load it up with goods from the station it's parked next to, jump to another system, offer them 4k/tonne there to unload it again, and make 2k/tonne profit on the whole deal.

(and sure, you could make 10k/tonne taking the goods yourself, but that'd be a much longer round trip than short station-carrier hops, so you'd be making less per hour except in ideal circumstances)

There aren't many goods this works for but there are enough to make it potentially usable for the people interested in using carriers this way.

Fleet Carriers will introduce a player market for deep space Tritium:
- you can mine it yourself
- you can pay someone else to mine it for you
- you can pay someone else to bring it out from a station to you
...it'll be interesting to see how the price of that evolves over time, and if it works out, whether Frontier extends it to other commodities.
