Credits ... Are we making too much or too little?

I fall on the side of FAR too much! .. Every day I see people complaining they are not making Billions in 20 mins (OK that's an exaggeration) .. but to see people moan that making a million in ten mins is "an Insult" is bizarre for me, an old Elite fan. Elite has always been about the long haul, Progression and the journey, now all I am hearing is "It's all a grind"

The progression is so messed up that in 1 hour you can move from a sidewinder to a far more capable ship .. and still i see people saying it's too slow!
I can't be the only one who remembers the joy of getting military lasers or that energy bomb and feeling that I had achieved something. I feel that credits are far too easy to come by now that the game is losing it's original identity as a long haul game.

FD please don't increase the progression speed anymore, I bet a lot of players have never seen the inside of a Hauler.
I get that people want things quickly, but that has never been Elites way.

The subject is polarizing and has been discussed in many, many threads not dedicated specifically to just this point. Feels like a trap and probably won't end well. However, I'll take a nibble and say that it's almost just right. There are some cases where earnings don't feel quite right while others feel a bit over for the effort. I'd say we're on the right track compared to day 1.

The fact that we have people of both sides of the argument for this, is a good indicator we are at the right place. You can't please everyone, but I think right now we are at a good compromise. Mission consistency could do with a look at, but apart from that, I think Fdev might actually be doing a good job for once.

I don't really understand why people worry about that. Everything I do makes me profit and as long as you play it just a bit safe its impossible to lose money.

Heck, I was stranded on a planet in a srv for 3 weeks and even that made me profit. just a tiny little bit, but still :D

Dont know about Credits but I'd settle for a heavy drop of Polonium right now. Materials are the real grind!

Oh and you should only be able to earn big money in Open.

*Chuckles*

No, it means that rewards are a mixture. Balancing is required!

I think the balance is off on expenses in some's opinion. Unless I'm engaged in PvP, I really don't havea lot of opportunies to lose a lot of money, so I'm free to save up and only lose money when I choose to. I'm working PP right now, and I am taking out hostile ships left and right to earn merits, so I have huge fines building up but that is my choice. I could accomplish the same objectives without incurring fees.

If I was really at risk for losing my ship and facing a $20mil loss everytime I left dock, then I could see where I may drift towards wanting easier or quicker sources of income. However, that would be just because I would likely want to keep playing the game as I want to play it (PvP) and would start to get annoyed if I had to dedicate one or two playing sessions to running missions and such to earn enough money before I could comfortable return to PvP.

While I understand this, I still disagree with making any changes.

Yes, I agree. Generally, I think it's fairly priced, but in some cases it's strangely low for a huge effort mission, and sometimes extremely high for a low effort, and the explanations aren't really that great. But to 95% I think it's there.

the thing for me is when I think Elite, I think of running food (or luxuries later on) and computers on the way back .. it took ages to get anything .. but when you did you started making loads of credits (and this was all in a Cobra MK III) .. I loved the fact that you had to work your way up over a long period of time (regardless of how much time I had IRL .. sometimes it took longer for the game to load than I had time to play!).

When I saw people stating they could make a million in an hour (at the start of ED) I was so impressed, and a little skeptical! .. now 1 mill in 10 mins isn't enough!

I used to be worried about making money too fast until I found out there's missions where you can flush money down the toilet in return for Influence. So whatever Independent or Alliance faction I come across gets free money as long as they're not pirates or fascists.

Wait...I thought everyone was a fascist nowadays ;) (I have a bad sense of humour).

Well, IMHO, FD have it fairly backwards.

Early game is too fast, and late game is err... I dunno.. slow... Fast? Depends what you do.
Not many activities in ED scale well with ship size.

And by that I mean, you can basically skip from Sidewinder to Cobra MkIII in a few minutes, missing out on an entire class of ship. Then Cobra to Asp in an hour or two.

Then, you can earn 2-3mil an hour bounty hunting in an Vulture.
Then get your Corvette.

And earn 2-3mil bounty hunting. Lol

I dunno. Basically the entire economy is messed up in ED, and i have no flippin' clue how to fix it. Lol

Sorry, but back then we did as we pleased. Instant gratification, you got it, that was us in the eighties and nineties allright, and it was fun !
Every mag worth it's name ran with pages showing peeks and pokes from unlimited money to invulnerability and this for any game you could think of. And when we moved to pc, we loaded up the diskeditors and started tinkering.
What, you really think we are going to run the same job 100 times to get a couple of points extra on that laser ? No mate, gimme the laser so I can start shooting stuff and explore where I want.
Sure, we did the whole trading and noted everything down in a little booklet, but after a while... .

You can't do that in this game, multiplayer, balance and the like... I get it (seriously, I sometimes pity new gamers). But as I'm slowly making a million/1-2 hours play evening to get my setup ready for exploring... it' certainly doesn't feel too quick.

I think rewards need to be increased slightly across the board, I've seen an improvement lately post 2.4 and it's really transformed the game for me, suddenly I feel that I'm progressing at a point which satisfies my goals vs my limited play time. I like the fact that I can earn 20, 000,000 in a fortnight and have A-rated a vulture as a result.

Not all of us have anacondas but for me perfect game balance is getting your rebuy back in an hour at most as rewards should scale with ships.

Anytime you think you're making "too much" feel free to spread it around, or blow it as you wish.

The rest of us are struggling to get by, especially with all the crazy crap they've done recently to the mission boards because of all the "I WANTZ MOAR HARD MOAD NAO!" spamming in the forums.

You want a harder game? Trying playing with your fingers duct taped or something- masochism isn't what we all fancy, you know.

That's why we ask for it to be optional.
Some of us don't find any challenge in this game, for the tools (ships, weapons & mods) we have available.
And no, using a stock Eagle is not answer. Why give us Corvettes, Cutters, Anacondas, high powered weapons, modifications, etc, if the game basically stops offering a challenge after you've got a Vulture?

Anyhoo, I haven't noticed any change in difficulty or pay in the missions since 2.4.

Still high paid milk runs all round. :p

Optional would be spectacular if FD just added an individual difficulty slider so each person could have their own flavor of game... but that's not the case.

I'm sick of MY game getting yanked back and forth because people are constantly unsatisfied. You don't like making money? Stop taking the missions. Why do we need to adjust the game every time someone gets a wild hair for something a little more difficult?
