Horizons Crew cost

I'd like to know how the cost for hiring NPC differs when you train them on your own vs hire them at a rank.
Some idea of how to train them would also be interesting.

I don't even bother training, it's just too expensive
Don't forget, they take up to 12% of ANY profit you make
It is cheaper to hire an expert, I think it's at 150,000 Cr, use him for what ever combat mission you need
then get rid of it, that's how I do it. As for "ESCORT" Missions ? Depends which ships you are talking about
If it's Passenger ships? forget it !! You'd be Space Dust before your escort attacks the Interdicting NPC, they are all Engeneered now and they don't attack on their own, it's 2 or 3 War Ships attacking your ship at the same time

If you want to keep one a build up rank not just "hire & fire" which is going against what FD intended, then buying the lowest possible rank is the best way.

I bought a Mostly Harmless pilot who is now Master rank, yet only costs me 6% profits. Which is HALF what it would be costing me if I'd bought the rank below (Expert) from the start.

I've paid my pilot around 1m in profit share since I hired her plus the negligible hiring fee. But if I'd have bought an Expert pilot I'd have been paying twice that rate, plus more when she ranked up. So probably nearer to 2-2.5m.

Maybe FD should not make the Interdicting NPC's impossible to defeat
then we could train pilots to fight for us while escorting us. The way it is at the moment
how can a little taipan and a Beluga Liner defeat an Anaconda plus an FDL and sometimes plus a federal Dropship ??
All you can do is RUN as fast as you can for which after 2.2 you have about a Boost and a half advantage compare to 2-3 Boosts before 2.2
and forget about using Mines, they have become irrelevant after 2.2 since the Interdicting NPC's now know how to avoid them

Carefully selected from the harmlessest of the harmless pilots and her skills grown with patience and lots of trial and error (and fighters destroyed), Anahi is now my expert crewmate with as low as 6% claims on all the credits earned. Do not give them the mothership's controls at the first levels though, if you want to keep it in a single piece.
