Crew crashed my ship!

Thought Id go out in the taipan to search for guisers.
Seemed to be a nice method to start with, relaxing...... until I hear "Im in trouble, shields down" Que! Turned back to see my conda on the floor floundering to gain height again. Not a nice sight so far from home. Ship was on 99% when I handed it to her, 51% left on hull when i got it back, I dread to think what would of happened had I not installed 2 3d HRP's:(

Is this normal?

I wouldn't let Ai fly my ship on planets. The Ai don't know about gravity and fly ship like in 0 gravity environment. They start slowing down too late because of this and will crash.

Well it did seem like they might be a distraction while exploring at first, something else to do and all that. Was kinda nice having crew along for the trip too, pity.
Its a shame we cant tell them to go into orbit or fly above 4km or something like that.
Would of told her to stay still, but the max range is about 30km, not much good
