Crew might almost be worth having multiple of, if they could move ships around and do other things.
I've never liked that crew take a % of ANYTHING you do, and in return they ONLY fly the ship while you fly a fighter, or fly a fighter. That is their ONLY function.
They could help scan. And maybe move ships around. If ships had individual cargo, a crew member could fly it around. Of course, if you send out a harmless NPC with 700 tons of valuable cargo, and tell it to fly 300ly, the ship is going to arrive damaged and empty at the destination. Or if you take a taxi for AFK reasons, the crew member could follow you around in the background. ...They could pick you up when you go to jail. If crew could make money, you could get new harmless crew, level them up, and then have them actually make money!
And dammit, I want to leave limpets in my bigger ships, and switch to a smaller ship with little or no cargo racks!!
(Really, you can track the stolen status of every single item we pick up in a list of 1000, but can't track limpets in the cargo of inactive ships?!)
Heck, give us mercenaries to disembark with us from our ship! Give players an employer rating, which tracks how much the mercs are paid (and survive) versus how often they die or get damaged by the player (no shooting your dudes to save money!).
