Crew Member Rescue/Retrieval

Not my idea. An option to retrieve your lost crew member after ship destruction would be a welcome change. It needn't be anything fancy, a simple mission to a USS in the system of death to pick up their escape pod. If they are worth the while you can go get them, if they were truly disposable simply hire another.
 
Similar concepts have been suggested before to have a way for the crew member not to just perish with the ship. The feature lacks depth and the crew member being strapped to the ship if it explodes degrades them to just being some kind of ammo restock or "fighter controller module" that you can just replace with another one at the next station. There should be way for a player to retrieve a lost crew member. There should be a choice for the player to either just get a new cremember or try to receive the lost (with added penalties, like reduced skill of the crew member or an increased credit cut for an adequate timeframe).

Yeah, I still do not get why FDEV are so reluctant to do anything about this...they have spoken about the technical reason why the NPC crewmember is lost, and still no signs of them fixing it.

And if you have spent a great deal of time with your NPC crew, then they are solely missed, imagine if we had to create a new commander everytime we died, (but still keep all the ships etc)...


Also this could open up for different costs, as if you "buy" recovery package when hiring a crew, they demand less pay, so for long term investments, it is cheaper to do this, and if you are the kind of commander that hire and dismissed crew like underwear, it is not worth paying for it.
Also Crewmembers should take their cut directly from your earnings, so you cannot dismiss before you turn your bond or bounties, etc. So if you kill a pirate and get 200 000 credits, and your NPC crewmember wage is 10%, you will get a claim of 180 000 credits and the crew get the remaining 20 000 credits. (And it will not update your NPC crew pays stat until you cash in your part.)


Also, I would love to be able to assign my NPC crewmember a vacant seat on the bridge. Just for the looks of it. (for multicrew, players have priority to the seat).


So once again, if you invest time and money in training your NPC crewmember, you sure want to protect that asset, not having some halfbaked stupid reasons for why your NPC crewmember is lost forever upon ship destruction. I have no problem in having this as an option to go out there and collect the escape pod.

Yep, I like that. Nice idea, and sounds reasonably straight forward to implement (from FDevs perspective). Those that aren't bothered by the loss of their crew can just, well, ignore the mission.
I've had several crew I've trained up to Deadly and Elite lost forever to the void after ship destruction that, given the opportunity, I'd gladly have gone back for. Especially "Teresa Isabel Tabatha Stephanie McGee"... i'd have gone back to Beagle Point for that one! :D

Yet to lose a crew member, but the fear of losing them prevents me from doing certain activities. I also find the concept of simply not bothering with crew barbaric. Not to get melodramatic, but it's a pretty terrbile position we're forced into. I'm happy to inflate my rebuy for a second escape pod. I'd actually enjoy a side mission to track down and rescue lost crew, would add a kind of silver lining to ship loss.
 
I like the idea of that, it'd have to be extra expensive though. You'd probably have to pay insurance for the pilot to pay off their family :ROFLMAO:

I think they need to tweak this idea some. If your ship is destroyed and your Crew member is left out in space. They should have a1% cost of the Crew member and an Insurance required. So if a ship Cost 500 Million Maybe % of that depending on the crew rank Would be the cost of the Crew after a ship is destroyed.
