Crew profit share - always or only when assigned?

I'm not sure if the percentage of the profit share applies all the time or only if the crew member is assigned to the ship (available as fighter pilot).

Having 3 10% profit share crew members sounds like a really bad idea if it's always.

Does anybody know how that profit share works?

Thanks for the answer. Too bad. Guess it's just hire and fire - everything else is too expensive.

I noticed the same thing. I ended up paying "fighter crew" out profits taken from a passenger mission that had no fighting in it. Hire en fire also means that ranking up the crew is a very costly event. I had 2 crew members and lost nearly half the profits of the mission to them in wages. I seriously guestion the use for beta release if stuff like this doesn't get addressed or fixed

In my own interests I'd have liked to see a fixed salary per game week (using the same time period as powerplay).

But I can certainly understand why a % works better from a design point of view, not only does it proof against any potential unintended loop holes people might find for using fighters and crew to get silly amount of credits per activity but it also future proofs the significance of your crews salary against any later changes to average incomes... like how the payouts for missions at release aren't remotely close to the 100-200k payouts for standard missions that are pretty common nowadays even with neutral standing and low rating.... or even in reverse, if rates of earnings decrease then a fixed salary that isn't immediately rebalanced in consideration for every possible activity and income potential will potentially bankrupt players if they don't avoid crews and fighters altogether... so again a % take per activity balances and scales itself and fits all foreseeable circumstances.

Not seeing the point of 3 crew slots when you can only take 1 crew member on some ships and all the crew get a cut of every transaction. Also, I don't have any hire options above Expert despite my Deadly combat rating.

Beta is really only to make money off the people willing to pay to beta for them. You see FD have a vision...

Always. And forget hiring a Harmless pilot to slowly rank up as they die with your ship and hence would be a complete and infuriating waste of game time.

Right now, the one and only usable option is to hire an expert pilot for bounty hunting and then immediately firing him when you're back at the station.

Feels kinda wierd, that means all this crew thing is just badly designed. For 12% of my CZ profit I'll rather just go without them.

I once had 3x ELITE Ranked NPCs (Trained from Harmless), mainly with future MultiCrew in mind at that time. Alas - it never came to be.

In the end, my main issue wasn't that they cut 30% into the pay regardless of being onboard or not, the killer for me was that they also cut into any BGS inputs to that extent.
I consider that a bug, but since it still happens after I reported it a long time ago, I assume it's simply a design flaw.
For me being a BGS worker bee, that was absolutely unacceptable. Nothing beats handing in 1M in Combat Bonds - and see the display instantly flip to "700k - submitted" when handing them in.

My last ELITE NPC still flies for me occasionally, when she's not drunk from all that Lavian Brandy or Eranin Pearl Whiskey she earned on all that passive income :D

My bad. :)

I was trying multicrew for the first time, and I thought something is wrong with how I read all this percentages so I googled this topic.

Not it feels even worse knowing nothing is changed.

Let it burry again.

Yeah... Its way too much outlay for what you get in return. Once I started to see how much $$ I was losing by having a part-time NPC pilot on the payroll, I got rid of them and went back to doing everything myself. Can't say I miss the NPCs all that much.

If they got paid per mission or per trip I would probably reconsider. But the current system is way too expensive.
