Crime & Punishment Changes

Currently there are two crimes I feel need some adjustment. Trespassing and Shooting a Clean or Unscanned NPC/Player.

Currently trespassing is a capital crime and death awaits those to commit this crime. It is clearly stated in every station. My issue is that the time limit to vacate the station if you forget to request clearance is a bit short. I would like to see this increased a bit, we get 10 minutes to land, 4 minutes to leave but only 30 seconds to stop and reverse out or turn around and leave if trespassing. Lets be reasonable, can we get at least a minute?

Shooting a Clean or Unscanned NPC or Player is current also a capitol crime. But since this can often be unintentional I feel this should be changed to a fine, which converts to a bounty if unpaid.

The change to 60 seconds would be a great idea...the whole reason for the time limit for trespassing was to prevent large ship run PC's from griefing the opening and more importantly NPC's from blocking the letterbox when they bug out and just start making their rendition of turtles having romantic encounters.

The shooting a clean or unscanned vessel, I'm on the fence about. It might be better served to have a fine, but no bounty. How this would change the PC griefing outlook, I am uncertain.

The change I would like to see enacted is either change the idea of 'smuggling' into that of 'thief', which it currently is, or make the markets realistic to actual smuggling rather than fencing.

I've mentioned this in another thread, but I'll repeat it here.

My suggestions for improvement:

1. There are two different circumstances where 'friendly fire' can occur: (a) in a 'combat zone'; defined as any area where a weapon has been fired and hit a ship, or (b) in a 'non-combat zone'.

2. In a 'combat zone':
a. Hitting the shields of a non-wanted ship just results in a complaint over the comms; "hey, watch it".
b. Causing damage to a non-wanted ship results in a fine (based on the damage caused).
c. Destroying a non-wanted ship results in "wanted" status and a bounty.

3. In a 'non-combat' zone:
a. Hitting the shields of a non-wanted ship just results in a fine.
b. Causing damage to a non-wanted ship results in "wanted" status.
c. Destroying a non-wanted ship results in "wanted" status.

About the port fines--the first day I'd have agreed with you. I was fined a lot and not sure entirely why. After a few hours of game play, I've adapted, and I think the port rules are fine. You have several minutes to loiter around and line up your pad, but only a few seconds if you block a pad you aren't supposed to be on. Vertical thrusters are the key control.

The wanted on first contact thing is annoying, but acceptable if consistent. Now I keep an eye out for other ships moving into the line of fire and hold fire when I might tap one of them. It would be nice if they'd do the "hey, watch it!" with a fine on the first accidental non-damaging contact before issuing a wanted notice, but as it is, it's a mechanic that screams loudly, and not politely that you're responsible for any shooting you do.
