Criminal law system and game ruiners...

Spotted this behauviour at Founder's world station: Some players having "fun" in blocking landing pads and bragging about their skillz while doing so. I'd suggest that making such behauviour punishable, and even making station defences react to it would be a nice touch for such "fun" loving game ruiners.

This has been going on since the beginning. As long as the timer hasnt expired there is nothing that can happen. Best thing you can do is look at the names add one to your block list and the next time you log in you will be put into another instance without them.

Yep, agree. Just get them out of your instance and get back to enjoying the game :)

I think you're being a bit binary. It doesn't 'ruin' the game when you can simply logout-in to Solo and dock, relog in Open. And as much as pad-hogs irk me, it most certainly shouldn't be punished as there is no in-game time limit applied to the landing pads. They're not breaking any rules

Those guys did not bother me, as I was going out from the station, but bothered others. I personally think that such behauviour is idiotic, and its only reason is to annoy other players. Especially when that is making someone to turn around some big ship, like type 9 in the midst of traffic. Personally I think permanent banning of such trolls from the game would be rather nice approach, or condemning them to special troll's only group where they can show their "skillz" to other trolls as much as they like.

Idiots like those "for the lulz" guys are big reason why many stick to private groups.

Ban them? Yeah, good luck with that. I think people who play an MMO but can't handle slightly annoying interaction with other players should be forced to use private groups.

Why not? :) Straightforward ganging up and destroying someones ship, especially in anarchy and low security systems is OK. I know the risks in entering those places. But that pad blocking is just misuse of game's logic and done purely to annoy people. Enough complaints against those having such hobby, and off you go would be nice. OR making special group for them, ie annoy enough people and you are sent to trolls only group :)

Seriously, solo fixes every problem you could ever possibly have with other players.

Doing rescue missions and all the pads on the rescue ship are full? Switch to solo.
Approaching a risky and busy star system and want to avoid being interdicted by players? Switch to solo.
Being harassed at dock by fools in large ships wedging you in the slot? Switch to solo. Switch immediately. You're not in danger, there is no wait. You'll pop back into the game just outside the station, which is where you wanted to be, right?

It's real quick. Hit escape, select Exit to Main Menu, wait about half a second, and then start in solo. Whatever problem you were having, any problem at all, if it involved another player, just went away.

Done doing whatever it is you were doing that for which players were a bother? Switch back to open.

Solo play is your key to the kingdom. Abuse it. It is there for you to abuse.

That's not a solution to the problem, its just another way to ignore it.

The thing is, players shouldn't have to switch to solo or private mode.
There is such thing as gaming etiquette ... or rather there was.

Sure, I've had my share of ***hats on the open server, and I gave them exactly what they wanted... The chance to be blown to smithereens by a better player. But like a dumb animal that walks up to a hunter with a rifle to get shot in the face, they think you want to play with them. Totally not the case, but there they are.

Don't get me wrong though. I'm all for someone pursuing their ideal game, PvPers included. My ideal game is not doing PvP when I'm not in the mood to do it. Playing Elite is my vacation from reality and being freed from adulthood for a couple hours.
If someone is at a pub and putting back a few, I don't go up to them and start trying to bring them back to the real world by sobering them up with reality. I let them be unless... ONE: I know them TWO: There is a problem I should be aware of (And I know them). THREE: I actually care about the person (And I know them). I never get asked or harassed into PvP by someone I call a friend. Funny how that works.

So if I don't come up to you and ruin YOUR fun, YOU shouldn't come over and ruin MY fun.

There is one solution to the problem though...
Since unwanted PvP and Pad blocking ARE considered an offense in most systems, then perhaps a player should be able to call in assistance from the AI police. Not the "report crimes against me" but an actual report crime in progress option that instantly brings in numerous system police. Upon call the timer for the person blocking a pad instantly finishes and they have 6 seconds to vacate the area. 6 seconds is quite enough time to get clear if you're doing nothing wrong. Totally not enough time if you're intentionally blocking the pad... just saying. So even if someone tried to use that on someone that wasn't trying to grief someone or trying to ruin someones game play, it would truly have no effect except to have a small armada just drop into the local area and start scanning players.
If you've done nothing wrong, then you have nothing to worry about.
I don't know about you, but I personally don't want to mess with 9 Anaconda's all at the same time.

The fact of the matter is that there truly isn't any real way to deal with people that are being a nuisance. There used to be something that could be done about it once upon a time ago, but now... no such luck. While some people Lie like cheep rugs, others Lie with style and they always tend to get away with it.

To the OP....
One day there will be a reckoning for the people that like to ruin others game play.

I truly didn't know that by blocking a person it prevented them from being in the same instance as you. I thought it just kept them from talking to you. Thanks for the tip :)

"... PvP?? ..."
".. no thanks..."
"... No worries, enjoy the game..."

That's how it should be.
Is it?? NOPE!!

You just described exactly what happens when you elect to play in Solo.

Nice forum lawyering, btw.

LOL Thanks... I edited it because I didn't want to have a back-lash of people coming into the conversation to either say it was off-topic (Which it was getting there) OR to have a large argument over it. But thanks for the compliment... I think :p

I don't think anyone really wanted to read that entire rant anyway LOL

Of course solo is a solution, the solution really, the perfect solution. Players making you angry and ruining your game? Remove the players.

You have no control over other players’ behavior. You have been given a perfect tool by FDev to deal with them: Just remove them from the equation.

How can any other solution be as easy and effective?

But Warm... that's the problem.
What if I have no problems with any of the OTHER players? Just the few that seem to be brainless. Then I can't play with all the other kids in the neighborhood. So no... its NOT a solution. Its just another way of Ignoring the problem.
Granted, its a VERY effective way of ignoring the problem, but its ignoring it none the less.

Then you go back to Open when the problem is abated. These shifts take seconds. Escape, exit to main menu, restart in open/solo, rejoin your friends.

I've had to do this in wings where my friends don't want to go into private. "Hey I'm being harassed by this guy, hold on let me go solo and get back to you. Safety in numbers and all." Go solo, go to where the wing is, and return to open, rejoin wing. Going into solo need not be permanent, and if the entire wing is being harassed then the move should be to go into PG for the session.

Ignoring the problem is a perfectly good solution when the problem may be ignored. As the saying goes, pick your battles. Not every problem needs to be fixed.

No, you're right, it only takes a few seconds. And true, people that harass and are being a general nuisance are worthy of being ignored. But it's more the principal of it. I'm just saying that I, you, or anyone else shouldn't have to log out, log in, move, log out and log back in at a new location. Sure, it takes seconds, but it shouldn't need to be a necessity when playing a game. Games are supposed to be fun, relaxing and or entertaining. Not just entertaining to a select few.

I can understand logging out and logging back in if you have a mission to deliver something to a station and the pads are clogged. Perfectly understandable in some cases. Especially if you have moments to deliver it and waiting in a really long line is going to make it fail. In real life, you would have had a check-in point at the delivery point and you would be ok and marked as on time.
The game has no such service, and not really sure it should... but hey... that part is up to FDev.

But having to log out because people are being ***hats isn't something you should have to do. That's all I'm really saying. You shouldn't Have to.

But here's something interesting...
On stations, if you get too close to the mail-slot, you get a warning and a temp fine for blocking and or attempting to do something you're not supposed to. Everyone gets that. On the ground, you don't get a wave off warning, but you should.
If there was a "no fly zone" like they have around some of the other areas in the game that require permission to enter, like landing request or take off clearance, that would negate anything on the ground being blocked. So people showing off their "Skillz" would find themselves with a fine. If their supposed to be there, then they don't have to worry about it... right?

For PVP harassment... well... The new system will take care of that... once they work the bugs out. That small inability to pay the fine is a real pain in the butt. Happened to me when I grazed a System Authority ship that dove in front of me while I was getting a bounty. VERY effective. The ship gets a bounty on it, it's considered hot and you can't uninstall the parts unless you get them cleaned OR you have to get the ship cleaned at an absorbent price that your wallet is definitely going to feel. You either wait for the opportunity to pay the fine, or you buy another ship just like it... and if it was a Corvette or Cutter with all the trimmings.. yeah... you're going to feel it.

Easy solution: ED - The Law Edition. Ganked? Get to one of the specified star systems, look up the offices of Begg, Barrow and Steele and have them serve the offending player for C2,000,000 credits for each offense. You might not win all of it. There's this "attorney fee" that both you and the offending player must remit. The court case will end up like engineering, except you'll have a better chance of winning if you're attorney is Grade 5.
