Critics about ED development

Dear Frontier company,

i had buyed ED for 50.- Euros, to expensive for an downloadversion and i am a little bit disappointed. The reasons are: ED is like 50% percent finished. Only orbital docking stations.
Landing on the planets not possible like earlier Elite times. Why not? No dockingstations on the planet? But, you want buyable DLC in the soon to be able to landing on
planets! Or to walk in station with extra buyable DLC an thats cheek! The choice of spaceships in ED are very very low! But you sell on your webshop with different
paintbrushes for the ships with 10 Pounds extra! And thats very disgusting!!! Its would better these different ship are available on the station in the game with credits! What i had earned in the game!!!
You get so much millions from the backers and you screwing the customers and thats not good!!

You got what you was promised, landing on planets was never promised to be in the release version, neither was walking around.
And Frontier did not get that much money actually, i agree i also hate DLC but it's the way it have to be.

TBH the devs said right from the beginning that this would be the case at launch, so they haven't lied in that regard. A question that should be answered though is will the DLC be paid for or not? I honestly hope that it comes out as an update but I don't think they gave out those details yet

Your Criticisms about the paint schemes may be correct, but everything that was to be included in the launch is there. I'm not sure if you have limited access to internet but if the game is truly expensive to you perhaps do some YouTube research beforehand. With the amount of information and feedback on this game i find it fairly unbelievable that someone would not know whats already in this game and what is not. This game is what it said it was. Perhaps just not what you wanted it to be. Either way i hope the game becomes more enjoyable for you.

Hi, I'm sorry you feel the way that you do, but I do want to point out that FD were quite clear that planetary landings and walking about in ships were future add ons. Various levels of backers did get the "perk" of future upgrades without cost, but of course they paid a lot more than 50Euro for that.

The skins are optional. You don't have to have them. They are a revenue stream for FD for those that want in game effects that don't affect anything other than the visuals. The money FD raised for through the kickstarter doesn't really go all that far you know. It's not like they are sitting on all taht money rubbing their fingers together. There are other games out there that have much much bigger kickstarter pledges that already have a shop raising extra funds... and they aren't released yet (and I'm not saying what they are doing is wrong, just drawing a comparison).

I think perhaps you didn't research enough before you bought. I'm sorry you aren't having the same fun I'm having in the game.

DLC? No. First, updates and improvments in this version.

A gift to you!

Its okey and fine what you think about ED. i like Elite. I liked Elite 2, because that game had 100% freedom. But ED has only 50%? And why? FD want to addon free landing on planets with buyable DLCs?
FD selling ships with different brushes on the wbshops and why? I dont understand! 30 years ago you get it all on a 600 kilobyte disk and today? 50 gigabytes and we must paying DLCs for anything! Thats cheek.
Today we have the internet with big flatrates and all companys can screwing the costumers with money! thats not good.

I'm having great fun in the game, well worth the £35 I paid for it. I can't wait for the DLC and I will happily pay money for it (unless it is outrageously expensive). I have already bouht paint jobs in the store for real world money as I am happy to support FD by giving them my cash so I can have that Union Flag Viper!! :)

This game has a very broad foundation, and whilst they are't actually all that deep in some places I trust that FD will do a good job in fleshing it out more with the updates.

FD have been quite open and honest about everything, much more so than other games I can think of (pity me I pre-ordered X-).

All in all I am happy with FD and their work so far, but they will never be able to please everybody, especially those with unrealistic expectations.

e50 is about the going rate for a game, jst because steam pushes sales doesn't mean the sale price is the correct price. Besides, ED is mot a compulsory purchase, you an take it or leave it.
The reasons are: ED is like 50% percent finished. Only orbital docking stations.
while ED is not "finished" there is more stuff to come, as far as has been indicated, for free. FD have talked about updating the MP aspects (to be fair, needed) and tweaking the various professions.
Landing on the planets not possible like earlier Elite times. Why not? No dockingstations on the planet? But, you want buyable DLC in the soon to be able to landing on

it's also what has always been planned as a separate expansion. As for landing on planets being in previous iterations, it was pretty basic, nowhere near the quality needed now and not MP.
The choice of spaceships in ED are very very low!
15 i think now, with a total of 30 to come (for free as far as we know). How many is enough? How many classes are there in CoD or WoW? How many playable ships in SC? Of course mot every ship is achievable right now, you might have to work a bit
But you sell on your webshop with different
paintbrushes for the ships with 10 Pounds extra! And thats very disgusting!!!Its would better these different ship are available on the station in the game with credits! What i had earned in the game!!!

so a summary of your requirements.

  • you want the game to cost less
  • You want the game to have more features
  • You want the game to have more content
  • You don't want vanity micro transactions to help pay for server upkeep.

I look forward to your e25 mp online space game with planetary landings, station FPS and no micro transactions. Where can i download it?

Hey, understand, we have a smal team dev to a huge and very nice game. A engine is perfect, is solid. Futures improvment come, see vídeos about this in page.

:)

I have noticed a distinct lack of variety in the game in the time I've played... the online "buy a paintjob to add character" store annoys me to no end as well.

A basic ship customisation suite should be included in the game, especially a game that is all about and really only about your spaceship. : /
Personality and imagination is supposed to be the cornerstone of this game after all, it's all very nice to dump you in a massive universe full of wonder, but if you can't make it your own universe in some version and feel engrossed then what's the point.

most of us think Elite Dangerous is good value for money. My only long term concern is whether there is enough of a revenue stream for the game. In that regard, I'd be more confident if there was a monthly subscription to connect to the game.

As it is, Frontier have done an amazing job with what they have brought us. They have said from day 1 that landing on planets would be a paid expansion. I would expect 1-2 paid expansions per year, and personally I'll snap up new paint jobs when they become available for the ships I fly.

You paid 50 euro's for exactly what Frontier delivered. And you have the cheek to say that not only do they have to suply you the fruits of over 2 years of development time for a measly 50 euros, they should continue to work for you free of charge even after you made the purchasing decision.

Frontier have even gone as far as making all purchasable items in the store totally zero effect on gameplay. Far from fleecing their customer base, they're bending over backwards to provide value for money.

Don´t worry, you´ll be able to pay again soon enough when they´ve added everything that should have been there at launch

First of, hurrah, another one of those threads :p

all of this, with just a little bit of research, could have been known. no one forces you to buy new paint jobs if you don't want to. fluff items like this are quite common, at least noone makes you but individual ships with real cash here, there will be more ships coming, so be patient, or not, your choice.

You get so much millions from the backers and you screwing the customers and thats not good!!

are you sure your not confusing this with Star Citizen?

A valid concern, but one I disagree with. Less about revenue stream more about a monthly subscription. I would not have backed this game if there was a monthly sub, and it was cleared upfront that there wouldnt be. How FD make money out of the game is up to them, we've already seen they charge for skins. They'll likely start introducing other DLC soon. TBH if they hadnt nuked the offline mode it would be less of a concern, but in doing so it has added a lot more weight to your concerns. I do wonder what the lifespan is of this game given they have to pay for the hosting.

Anyway :) No point in speculating, I'd rather just enjoy myself while I can.

You are getting what you paid for. But have you noticed the monthly fees you are not paying? You can play the game as is now for years and never have to pay another penny. When the DLCs become available you can buy them IF YOU WANT TO, nobody will twist your arm. This is the way FD have decided to finance the game. The choice is always with the customer... don't like something they offer, then don't buy it. Simples.

This game is more finished/polished than any AAA game I've encountered with in the last 4 years.

no plz dont say that plz...

more finished than AAA game seriously? i can agree a litlle on the polished one but the finished plz no...

didnt know that cod and other AAA game release without multiplayer or solo campagne (and without all the weapons too)...

the game is far from finished for now, AAA game are finished when release, nothing like elite on that aspect. but yeah since many game are on a yearly release many more release buggy/without optimisation but still complete...

at least elite has the optimisation done correctly, but it's still incomplete and buggy.

to op :
just wait like many other that elite gain some month and new feature and it will maybe be enjoyable for you :)
