I think it would be awesome if there was a way to use terrain painting from other biomes in my park (for example: Grassland biome painting in a Tropical biome map).
I know this feature was missing since planet coaster but I think it will be a great addition to planet zoo.
that will allow for example on temperate biome zoos to put zebras and giraffes in an african look habitat with the orange/yellow grass. instead of the temperate green grass which looks funny and not connected with them.

yes, imo the most important missing feature to imitate realistic zoos without heavy implementation of other items like rocks. Unfortunately, I doubt that they will implement this taken into account how map implementation is designed in the game.

Zoos don't transplant grass and terrain from other parts of the world into their habitats
In fact they do. Zoos are using laid turf and they also try to get appropriate sands and soils, when the ground on their location is not really suitable. Sure, they don't get it from around the world...but in some cases it's delivered from other countries.

I’ve got to agree with NZFanatic on this one every zoo I’ve ever been to will make due with the environment they have. I’m not saying that importing some pieces isn’t taking place as I know zoos are always looking for the best ways to replicate a animals environment but the truth is a lion isn’t going to care to distinguish foliage from Africa compared to any other part of the world. Same with terrain. Me personally when I build my zoos in game I try to make things as realistic as possible. If it’s a temperate biome then I try to stick with temperate type foliage for a much more naturalistic look. I used to play other zoo games and in the past I’d build accordingly to the continent or region the animals from. But looking back at it it didn’t look really good or realistic I mean your whole zoo has green grass then a African animal has burnt yellow grass? I’ve found that sticking with a more natural look gives a much more authentic look to your zoo personally. But everyone has their own building style and to each their own but a more realistic look always looks more pleasing to the eye.

How is that realistic, though? Zoos don't transplant grass and terrain from other parts of the world into their habitats, they use the terrain they already have present.
Then you should broaden your horizon, because every zoo I've been to does that (imitating terrain that is, even often importing rocks from certain areas and for sure plants).

I would like to have this feature. As I’ve said previously, as an example, I’d like to make an Alpine zoo with nice green grass. But the Taiga map doesn’t offer that possibility.

These are 2 exhibits from Singapore Zoo the lion exhibit up top is a well done representation of Africa but nothing’s been imported. They got that look like many other zoos by clearing the terrain and putting a lot of rock work in the exhibit. The zebra exhibit looks too tropical imo but the foliage and environment in Singapore is tropical. I’m not trying to argue but I’ve never seen a zoo import terrain or foliage except for a indoor exhibit maybe where climate can be easier to replicate like tropical indoor walk through exhibits.

If people don't want to use different terrain biomes then fine. But in a game with flying sky islands and zoos at Machu Picchu I don't get why anyone would actively argue against the possibility.

Agreed that’s fine with me if someone wants to do this. As I’ve said everyone has their own style. I do like the light soil in the tropical biome as from a distance it kinda looks like mulch. Hopefully eventually they can add a mulch type biome paint.

I don't think the argument of it being realistic or not matters.

The game is largely about creativity and seeing all the amazing things the community can build.

Yes, it is also a Zoo Game about animal management, welfare, conservation, etc, but it has such huge potential to be so much more. Anything that can expand that potential is a good thing. If it isn't something that you would use, then don't use it! Don't limit another person's creative drive just because it isn't something you would want.

Instead, if there is something you do want absolutely put a suggestion for that so the community can support your ideas!

Support each other in our desires to stretch our creative legs and our imaginations! Don't drag each other down because "boo hoo I want my idea first/instead." Help everyone get their ideas implemented.

I guess this will eventually come to the game, in the form of a map editor. (just like Planco).

But do remember, you'll be swapping out textures, not adding them. So getting your nice green grass in Taiga should be possible, but you'll loose the older grass texture.

Sorry to revoke this thread ... but is it possible to have all types of terrain paints in all biomes at all types? With the australia pack I find it especially sad, that I can't use red dirt paint in a temperate biome.

Zoo hannover for example uses red dirt for theming their australian area, so at least having different dirt paints wouldn't be that unrealistic. And it would definately add to more creativity.

I agree completely. I’d like for example to use the Australia map but without the red dirt. And the tundra map but with the temperate biome green grass.

In Planet Coaster they said they were limited by performance issues whenever they tried to increase the number of terain paints available so they compromised by trying to give some flexibility and allowed us to create custom biomes with a mix of our own choice of paints (eventually they also created the scenario editor). So imagine something like that would be possible but not an increase in paints per biome.

Personally think this should be the suggestion. If they already confirmed limited by performance issues - ask for something similar from their other titles.
If it worked for PC without major issues - it could work for PZ.

Pairi Daiza even goes as far as actually importing rocks and sand/dirt from the countries they want to showcase 😅

I know Perth Zoo has utilised our red sands in some of their Africa exhibits and habitats and had dark organic soils brought in for the tropical ones. If they can't get real rocks and wood that looks like it's from the region, they'll use false ones instead. Perths natural soils are very sandy and generally shades of grey.
