Hi guys & Frontier
I had a conversation recently with an xbox user who has been playing the game a lot longer then me who had read an article talking about a third party server being setup where commander data would be saved to. The general idea was that it didn't matter what platform you played on once you logged on your data would be downloaded from there rather then a frontier or microsoft server. Essentially the 1's & 0's that make your commander up would be saved elsewhere. I cant find mention of this anywhere but it seemed like a logical idea. Anyone else seen or heard this?
Surely the data that makes me me are just figures in a database, name, credit balance, ships, locations etc etc, i am probably over simplifying the situation but i work in an environment where our DBA team and software dev teams are dealing with some very fast moving complicated data that ultimately resides on an SQL DB.
Ive no plans to change from PC but i have had several conversations now with xbox commanders who have been playing the game so long that to restart on a PC would be too much to bare but they would like to migrate and I'm sure that there are probably some out there that would like to move in the other direction.
Even if the above idea is not viable why isn't there a paid migration service available , people i have spoken with would happily pay a fee to have there commander data move/re-created on the opposing platform, they'd have to re-buy the game and any paint packs for the new platform, frontier would make money which would (hopefully) go back into the game and Microsoft wouldn't lose out as those xbox players have already spent their money or vice-versa.
It seems like common sense to me..... why isn't it?.... what am i missing?
thoughts?
Cheers
