Newcomer / Intro Cross Play?

Hello all,

I have been looking into Elite for about a month now as another game a buddy of mine and myself can put in our rotation of games to play and was wondering if it is cross play compatible. He would for sure play on PS4 but i would prefer to play on PC. I looked into this matter online and that ended up giving me mixed results. Some posts said no cross play at all, others said yes there is, and still others said that platforms share the universe (shared economy for example) but do not actually cross each others paths (so you only see players on your respective platform). I was hoping posting on here would get me a definitive answer to all this. Thanks in advance to any who help

The last option is the correct one. Currently PC, PS4 and X-Box share the same galaxy, actions from each of them influence the galaxy in the same way (as well as players in private groups and in solo mode), but you can't directly encounter a player that is playing on another platform. The closest you can get to that atm is the fleet carriers, since those are the same over all platforms and modes.
