Crossplay between PS4 and XBOX One (PC)

Hello,
I'm a Xbox player and i'd like to play at least with PS4 Players together. Maybe PC to (if possible and fair gameplay) .

Sony stopped his "No Crossplay Oppinion" and In Fortnite and Rocket League already has Full crossplay with XBOX and PS4.

In Elite: Dangerous we are in the same world but cant see our ships. I wish I could play with my playstation friends Elite together!

Crossplay amongst all platforms seems like a logical progression and I'm sure it would be a very popular improvement.

The only reservation I would have is for PvP where PC CMDR's have third party add-on support, as well as Frontier supported extras such as headlook and VR. I'm sure those could be worked around if necessary, but I would of course prefer if equivalent features would be implemented on the consoles as well.

Come on Frontier, give the consoles a little extra attention...

tldr; +1 vote from me.

about AddOns for PC i'm a little bit worried too. But it would be a big improvement If XBOX One and PS4 atleast could play together.

ask sony to do it for free mabe they hear, elites player count is to low for that simply as that. And Network code is so bad its not even possible to play together at same system (pc) most of times.

As a PC player, i'd say this is irrelevant, as many PC CMDRs do not use add-on stuff, use a controller (Dualshock4 or Xbox controller), and so face the same perceived disadvantages as if there was console cross-play already.
Also note not all PCs are mega-powerhouses, with some hitting minimum, or sub-minimum, spec, which puts them worse than the PS4 Pro or XboxOneX. I used to play Elite on an 11" MacBook Air when travelling, for example.

As a PS4 player, i'm disappointed in Sony, but the ball would now be in FDev's court. We (PS4 players) have already had threads about cross-play, and iirc it was almost universally wanted*, so I for one support your wish.

I'm guessing the main issues now are working out how to deal with transactions across various stores; what to do with platform's various services integration (eg: can I search for a friend on Xbox, and add them? They clearly can't be added to my PSN friends list, so do we need an extrapolated PC account per console?); naming issues (I have a PC Frontier account called "Stinja", my PSN account is "Stinja", and I have an Xbox account called "Stinja", if I first discover a system, which account gets marked?), and so on.
The actual netcode to allow cross-play in-game, like to see a hollow on another platform, should be trivial.

We all want this or wouldn't mind about it, but I'll quote myself from another thread that asked the same, because really, a lot of people want it, but it is not in the hands of the developers entirely.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough: Sony doesn't want crossplay, it has only allowed it on certain games, like Fornite because of the huge popularity of them and it became a profitable option for them. This has made angry several developers. For example, Bethesda sent an ultimatum to Sony with Fallout 76 threaten them to not release it in PS4 if they didn't allow cross-play with the other consoles, Microsoft was on board with crossplaying only if PS4 also did. They reached a compromise and said that the cross-play was going to be allowed "later" after launch, but due to the poor reception of that game I think that the "later" is going to be a "never".

As I said, this is more about public relationships and negotiation than about programming.

I know. Thats why FD have to annoy and blame Sony. They have to fight like PSYONIX. Sony said in public crossplay is not possible. Psyonic said it's already working and waiting for release.

So if FD only wait, its never gonna happen. The have to work with Game Magazins that publish articles against Sony...

Im in ps4, and i stopped playing elite after 2 years becouse base player is so empty now. I have done almost every aspect if the game and play with others players is the only fun i get now.
If cross play dont come to ps4 i think i will stop playing, but well there are others games.

yeah, this point was multiple times in the past and fdev certainly seems open to the idea and waiting for the go signal from sony/microsoft. also elite is one of the few games where i think pc only has so much of an advantage over consoles, but what do i know. i am not into pvp, i'm just flying my space cows with xbox-controller + keyboard on pc

The only advantage PC has over consoler is the ability to have ALOT more buttons available. And even that is chaning.

PC support
Keyboard, mouse, Controller, HOTAS, etc.

XBox One support
Controller, HOTAS, and now the platform supports Keyboard + mouse, but each game developer have to OPT-IN to enable support.

PS4 supports
Controller, HOTAS, and the platform support Keyboard + mouse, but support for this is up to game developers to enable.

So there should not really be any difference in what inputs method Elite Dangerous supports. And by just adding keyboard support to type text and assign functions to the keys would be a good start. Where PC excels is in options available, as we have more controller support, more HOTAS options, etc, etc. Love the PS4 controller? you can use it on PC, love the Xbox controller, use that one, or go all out on using something like the Steam Controller.

One thing that I have been wondering about, is how instancing is done on XBox and PS4, does they really use P2P networking here to? or do they pass the traffic through the Live or PSN networks to connect the players on these platforms?

FD is not Bethesda or EA nor anything close to the giants of game publishing, while Sony feels confident because they have won this round of the "console wars". I guess they can request it, but don't have the power to influence their decision. If something would be done, it has to be done jointly with several other small to medium developers and publishers and somehow prove that the crossplaying will be profitable to Sony (I have no idea if that is even true). The big developers are going to "fight" only for their games, and do it alone will probably only get a "We'll consider it" mail.

until now FDev has not even asked I think. Here is my support chat with FDev.

As solo player, I don't care as it won't change my gameplay.
As ED player, I feel concern that the efforts will put new features on hold.
As reasonable human, I believe that the efforts should not be that big.
As experienced ED player, I expect introducing new bugs which will ruin gameplay for all platforms for several days right after release.
