CU Amiga review - November 1993

Visiting family over the Christmas period, I thought I'd dig around at my dad's place to see if I could find the original copies of the speccy version of elite and the Amiga versions of Frontier and First Encounters.

He rarely throws things away, so it can be a treasure trove of memories if you start digging around his house, spectrums, commodore 64s, cd32, Amiga and loads of games for each of the systems.

I wasn't able to find the games themselves, they are definitely there somewhere, but buried away. I did find though, the magazine which contained the review of Frontier which convinced me to buy the game. At the time, they gave it a score of 97%.

"The ultimate in space adventure, Frontier is the single most important step forward for games this decade"

If I can figure out how to post pics on this forum, I'll add some images.

Yup would love to see that one again! I used to buy all those computer mags as a kid and I kept them for years before I finally had to throw them out :p

We still have most of them along with the floppys. I liked the later CU Amiga issues but still prefered Amiga Format and think that I got my name in its last issue :)
Also am sure that I have every issue of AmigaActive :)

From that to "Euro Truck Simulator in Space" . . . Where's the step forward, the pushing the envelope, the anything but a generic space trading game?

I got exactly that issue about two years ago together with a used Amiga I bought in the UK. A few weeks later the Kickstarter for ED was launched. Sometimes life plays tricks on you :)

Back in the days the best German games magazine around here was PowerPlay, at least that was my not so humble opinion at that time. All the other mags were puny imitations of the one true game magazine. Here is the PPlay review ( in German).
