Curiosity almost killed the CMDR

So as you're probably aware, I'm currently heading back from Sagittarius A* and seeing some sights along the way. I visited Great Annihilator, Atlas II and the Gru Hypai Stellar Remnant. NExt on my list of places to see was the planetary nebula surrounding the Wolf Rayet star at NGC 6326. So off I go, getting TONS of neutron boosts near the end of the route. In fact I got a neutron boost RIGHT INTO THE SYSTEM! (you can see where this is going, can't you?)

So Imagine my shock, panic and rising nausea when I tried to plot a course for the next leg of my journey and realised that my 25LY jump range was not actually enough to get me out of the system. I was effectively stranded. Kicking myself for being so foolish, I looked in vain at the galaxy map, trying to plot a route out but finding nothing. The closest neutron star was 68LY away. I had almost resigned myself to the idea of dying alone out here when I realised I had enough materials to synthesize some FSD injections. I injected and boosted the 31LY to the next system, then injected again and bosted the 38LY to the neutron star. Thankfully, from there I could use the jet cones to boost me on my way and I was able to play a route to PSR J1709-4429, 121 jumps away.

Let this be a reminder to me and a lesson to anyone, don't jump into systems you can't get out of!

(and yes, I know I'm jumping 25LY, I couldn't afford a 5A FSD when I left, OK? Of course, I have enoguh to pay for one ten times over now. Hoping to make it back to some sort of outpost tomorrow)

Fly safe, and always being jumponium!

It wasn't lack of fuel, it was the fact that my ship was physically incapable of reaching the next system

If you ever find yourself having run out of jumponium mats and are in a system where jumponium materials can be found either by ring-mining or by surface driving, but you don't have a mining laser or SRV to fetch them yourself, you can still ask for help. Cmdr Macedonica and I have both been rescued by Cmdr Chiggy VonRictofen under such circumstances. You can read about my escapade scraping polonium from a planet surface using a ship's cargo scoop in this old thread. Macedonica's rescue via mining laser was far more epic and has been chronicled in this thread.

Yeah, I was doing some exploration of a sparse region where I was using neutron & WD boosts to get there, and was terrified that I would make this mistake, so I intentionally turned boosting off in the course plotter when I got close to the destination. That's always a danger... The last star might be too far from everything else, if you're not careful.

I'm glad I made it out. Pretty good story to end "season 2" of my blog on!

140 jumps from civilisation. What's the next exploration rank after "Ranger"? Hopefully I'll get a promotion.

Well I made Pioneer and I'm 18% towards elite, which is pretty great. Also made 100 million, which puts me on 160 million ish. Just need to decide how to make best use of the money...
