Horizons Curiosity: Why are we killed on sight for any bounty?

I'll admit, I'm a little angry. I had a 1000cr bounty in a system but did not realise. I have no idea where it came from as I'm not a hostile player unless I'm out on assassination missions.... Most likely I screwed up my flying and hit something I wasn't supposed to.

I just lost 2,000,000 credits to this issue as I took on a sight seeing adventure to one location 3 jumps away, it took me very little time to complete but to be destroyed over 1000cr seems really dramatic when 1000cr in this game is like literally $1 and last time I checked most authority figures wouldn't kill someone over $1. I comes to mind to ask why is there not like.. some kind of contact you can use to clear your bounties for say the price of your bounty + 15% or something like that? Why don't system authority vessels just scan us, and send a request to pay up? If we don't pay up, or try to escape, or attack obviously then they can kill us but I just don't think something like a small bounty should cost us an entire missions worth of income + Ship costs + bounty costs.

I suppose my best suggestions would be the following
If the system stays the same, brutal and ruthless no matter the bounty, if our ship is destroyed we shouldn't then also have to pay the bounty. Talk about insult to injury.
Give us a chance to payoff the bounties or maybe even perform a redemption mission.
Or have a bounty remover contact at pirate stations who remove bounties for a significant fee.

Your bounties are listed in your Transactions tab, I'd suggest paying it a bit more attention. If you just stay away from any system controlled by the issuing faction for that period of time you'll be fine.

" Why are we killed on sight for any bounty? "

'Cause them's the rules of the game. I mean, death for loitering? That's pretty extreme also, eh? 250 cr fine when some lame NPC dive-bomb-scans you and clips your tail? Wait 'til a "Clean" local decides to fly into your line of fire and gets obliterated -- you may have hit him with only 1 bullet but you get a piece of the murder charge.

All you can really do is grit your teeth and roll with the punches. And as said already, pay attention to Transactions. Furthermore, you are Wanted in only a certain system, and that is flagged in the HUD before you jump to that system -- ignore this at your peril.

Ever heard of Judge Dread, and specifically the law and order within his universe?

Yeah, Elite's law and order is like that. It's not about the severity of crime you've done, anything which is a crime can be a death sentence.

oh wow golly gee wizz, I had no idea.... Seriously who doesn't know this? It's not what I asked, don't be so pretentious.

I would certainly like to know why we get attacked for 100, 200, 300, 400 cr. bounties too.

I could understand if the bounty was over 10k cr, but Losing a ship worth millions, for a 107 cr bounty is crap!

Didn't you know? Most system security personnel are ex-gankers. They join the police so they can beat people up with impunity.

You were doing criminal activities because you could get more money. You got got caught and they dealt with you. You either need to become a better criminal or become a law abiding pilot.

To become a good criminal, you need to know all deatails of how the crime and punishment system works, how the police work and how to avoid or deal with them.

When you have a bounty on you, there's a big red "wanted" on the right of your HUD, which should be a bit of a clue that you shouldn't go near the police. Now that bounty is dormant, which is worse because you're still wanted, but you don't see it.

If it pleases you, you can strip out the advice about the transaction tab and be left with the bit most relevant to you:

You got caught, deal with it.

There's hundreds of systems in the bubble and a bounty will typically apply only to one or two, system security is incredibly easy to escape from and you can evade scans coming into station 99.9% of the time.

Don't wanna have to deal with that minor inconvenience? Don't break the law. Seriously, who doesn't know this?

I think this is changing with the next update, but I've also been where you are and got a little angry too.

Honestly, it's just dumb to get killed for 100, 1,000, or 10K credit bounty. A 1 mill bounty, yeah sure. But for pocket change? Not worth the energy to power the lasers or cannons, never mind the cleanup costs!

That said, even worse was when passengers first came out.

Stations allowed high ranking criminals to walk around in public, use public terminals to update social media and make travel reservations, and walk around passenger terminals like they owned the place.

BUT as soon as they left the station in a passenger ship full of innocent children BAM! Security would blow the whole ship up just for kicks!

Well, that's how my first passenger mission went - lost a brand new Orca and didn't try passenger again for MONTHS lol.

Apparently, there is no "no fly list" anymore. More of a "kill if flying" list I guess?

To quote a famous FDev employee, "That's rubbish!"

Well, it was my fault, really.

I forgot to read the tiny footnote that that said the passenger was wanted. Would have help if they used bigger text, and noted the next ship that took him out of the station would be blown up.

Also could really use a "legal" filter for passenger missions guys...

But still, once you know what to look for it becomes a little easier to enjoy the game while ignoring some of the inconsistencies.

And I do enjoy the game :-D

I love all the elitists,

From what I can tell most people actually agree with my side of the story. I think I hit something on the way into the station or something which became a bounty.

People need to calm down.

Living with the rules of the game, no matter how ludicrous they may seem, is not elitist, it's just getting along. If you have a real bug-up about it, consider filing a ticket with Support. That way the people who can actually do something about it will have heard you. You may or may not get a desired remedy, but you will have stated your case.

Sympathy doesn't help. You need to understand that you did something wrong and learn from it. You don't get a 1000cr bounty for bumping into someone. My guess is that you were carrying an illegal passenger, who offered you a big payment to take him somewhere, but the Cops found you out. If you want to carry illegal passengers, you must learn how to hide it from the cops, otherwise the same will happen again. That's what people mean by git gud. They're not being elitist. they're trying to help you. Please understand that your predicament was caused by lack of knowledge and/or ignorance. It's not a mistake by the game. Instead, it's you that made a mistake.

When you got the bounty, big orange writing came across the top of your screen telling you so. How can you ignore that?
