Curious about Frontier income from Carriers.

Yo folks!
As everyone knows, there are currently approximately 47 squintillion Fleet Carriers in the game. Mine is one of them.
There are so many Carriers in some systems a guy in a spacesuit can pack a lunch and walk from one planet to another.
(I do not, however, recommend this. Carriers tend to be bumpy.)

Naturally, we don't need to spend actual money on them; just in-game Credits but in order to decorate them, one must buy ARX, which do cost money.
Pretty smart on Frontier's part, I personally think.
Just out of curiosity, I wonder how much income FC's generate for Frontier?

(As a side note guys, I think it was a smart idea and I love my FC - enough that I finally plunked the plastic down for some ARX. She looks luvverly now. ;) Can we please try to keep away from the arguments about whether or not FC's are a Good Thing? Thanks.)
:)

I spent about £12 during the sale and a lot went on my carrier. Quite a bit went onto Holly, I mean Leo for my main account.

I'd also be interested to know how much gets spent per week on upkeep :)

I left the carrier appearance and voice at default settings. This makes my carrier unique. :)

Inara is listing a bit more than 16,400 carriers. There are probably more than that, but not sensibly more.
That should be around 5-7% of the regular population...

Probably not as many FD would want (for the purpose of generated revenues) - still, i would expect at least half their owners (if not more) to get cosmetics for them
I got a paint and a voice pack for each of my both carriers for example

I got a carrier kit when they announced VR for Odyssey, which I bought ARX for - first time I bought ARX, I preferred the old, direct purchase method of "I want it, I buy it". Now it is more like "I want it, I might as well wait a week or two more and buy it with my free ARX, or find out I don't really want it so much". To be fair, I already have all the skins and ship kits that I want. Last purchase was the holographic letters, which I paid with free ARX (and actually haven't used yet)

2 of my accounts have Fleet Carriers - both have ship kits, PJ's and Landing Pad grid colours.
The first was bought with a splurge of cash for Arghs...
The second had a smaller splash as the 'sale' was on :)

I'd guess that quite a lot of money transactions have been generated by us lot pimping our FC's 🥳

I spent around £18 on Arx for the various bits on my Carrier as well as other paints for other ships. I would've spent more if they had brought out "Midnight Black" for the FC. Ah well, maybe next year 🤷‍♂️

Said it before but, when first attempting to buy an FC, I spent an afternoon flying from place to place cos I specifically wanted one of the "hammerhead" ones.
It actually took a bit of googling before I realised they all start off the same and then the other derivatives are "ship kits" for the default FC. 😕

Maybe I'm a bit odd but I actually enjoy visiting other people's FCs, just to see what they look like, what modules they have and what they have for sale.
Never ceases to surprise me how many people have really gone nuts with their FC, with ship-kits, paint, voices, colours and providing extensive facilities aboard them.

I'm a bit surprised that so many people have made the effort to spend money to mod' something which, after all, you can't actually "fly" in ED.
Good on 'em for embracing FCs so strongly.

Maybe it's a bit paradoxical, after I originally wanted a specific FC but, having operated one for a few months now, I'm not that bothered about customising mine. 🤷‍♂️

If you could customise them in practical ways, I'd be in there like a rat up a drainpipe but I guess the sort of things that'd interest me would be things FDev couldn't really charge money for.
I wish FDev had offered the FC, initially, as a basic "core" with, say, a couple of landing pads and an accomodation module and then you could purchase (with credits) stuff like crew quarters (to provide living areas for your FC crew), a Flight Operations module (for adding more landing pads), a Hydroponics module (to provide food for your crew), a science module (for repairing stuff and providing things like Limpets), a Workshop (for repairs), a Navigation Centre (for plotting jumps) etc.
All these modules would be visible, attached to your FC's "core", so everybody's FC would naturally end up looking unique and it'd advertise what facilities were available.

I have three accounts, and each now has a Carrier. So I went for:

1 Fortune-class
1 Nautilus-class
1 Victory-class

...And, yes, I bought Arx for them (would have taken too long to get enough in-game). So, well-played by Frontier, they got more money out of me. Not complaining, my way of supporting the game.
