Curious about the star field at Orion Nebula

Hi all. Been noodling around Orion, Barnards Loop, Flame nebula etc. for the last few days.

I was really struck by the column of mostly m-type stars emanating from (and through) Orion's Nebula.

I couldn't find any references online to it anywhere. I presume these are stars being created in the nebula - but why would they appear in a near perfect column?

If you look down the length of the cluster from Sol, you would see a tight patch of stars. The Stellar Forge used to generate the Galaxy turns tight clusters into roads to simulate the viewpoint from Sol.
Have a look at the Omega Nebula on the Galaxy Map and you'll see a patch of bright stars near it in a regularly spaced pattern. Same idea, trying to simulate the appearance of a star cluster from Sol.
