General / Off-Topic Curious...are you in the [Elite] IT Field?

Software test engineer (embedded) for 10+ years now. Before that, coder, sw design, technical support etc etc. Looking forward to the alpha and reporting bugs :)

IT services for 20 years

I wrote software (on the beeb) while in school in the '80's, operated a BBS in the '90's, went through the dotcom rollercoaster around Y2K and am currently designing and developing websites, mobile friendly websites and mobile apps.

IT , 9 years. i dont see how IT has much to do with Elite apart from the fact there are computers involved..

IT - 17 years. Hardware support and repair to component level, and lol no - I don't mean swapping sound cards ;)

I re-ziip zaaps amongst other things, and max Vaxxen, and occasionally have to redip the odd AS400. Fun and games!

I have more hobbyist IT knowledge than I care to admit while out on a date... I started out learning a lot of IT so that I wouldn't have to pay someone else to do it... Although my computer experience as a kid was just because I liked using them.

Did about a year (so far) in phone-based IT support, but I would like to get my hands dirty with a bit more hardware support, admin, that sort of thing. Maybe even take a dip into programming, having recently started to learn Java so I can develop some Android apps to fill a few niches I have (although I do have a lit of experience in writing Pascal and Basic from my Uni days, far too many years ago).

But I'm also a go-to-guy for people's electronics and PC problems.

Asp Explorer: I remember the days where I did a little work for a laptop repair place. It was some of the easiest work I've ever done, what with there being a stack of spare parts to replace any faulty ones, plus standardised testing systems on floppy disk (yes, this was in the days when laptops still had integrated floppy drives). No solder work was ever carried out on site, and instead, it was a case of unplug and replace.

I did ten years swapping sound cards :p and other bits too...
Laptop repairs in the field, network setups, plasma tv installs sound installs, large network intstalls, cabling, Till systems... bah if you could charge for it... I'd be sent to do it.
Apple repairs are SOOOO much fun the tool list in the ref guides are hilarious.
Cup Hook, Paint Scraper to highlight but 2.

Anyway I loved those days, working with people.

UGH!!! Gods of Kobol, that article gave me a headache, and all that code in the comment made my head explode.

I will never again complain about writing code in C, C++ or C#.

Wow.. that must be what hell is like for developers when they die :(
