Newcomer / Intro Curious laser problem - advice please!

I'm at some backwater called Brand City with my Freeagle. Bit short of cash so I thought I'd do a bit of bounty hunting at the Nav Beacon in the system. Freeagle has the two loaned pulse lasers and a multicannon.
Found a wanted asp and went for it. Unfortunately although the laser sound happens when I press the trigger, and the energy bar in the HUD drops a little to suggest the lasers are working, I see no laser beams and there is clearly no hit on the target either visible on the actual target or on the targetting holo.
Not surprisingly, nearly got my a** handed to me. The multicannons worked fine.
Any idea what's going on because clearly this could be a major problem for me. I don't have the cash to buy new weapons and can't get any if my lasers are stuffed.

Lasers are assigned to fire group one of course and power doers not seem to be an issue.

Any advice welcome!

check your power balance... you need at least 1 pip showing in weapons to fire lasers

no pips = no fire

done it myself.....

I promise you... fly out from a station.... beyond the no fire zone

power to ENG and SYS only.... nothing on WEP

deploy hard points and fire your lasers ( or don't... no pew pew)

then fire your cannon

cannons need no power ... they are kinetic (fires bullets/shells)

put a pip to WEP.... and repeat

see the difference ???

I'm at work at the moment so can't test it. What you say makes sense, but I DO get the Pew-Pew sound and the bar by the laser icon in the HUD does drop. Just no laser beam

Just had the same issue with my freeagle. Definitely need to check this out as I frequently travel with 4 pips in engine and 2 in system. If there was no sound trying to fire and if there was a message in top right corner this would be more evident I think ...
