I'm in a mostly A-graded combat Cobra heading out into my local (High Security) sector to pick up three salvage missions simultaneously. I'm expecting that as soon as I hit the scanner I'll get mission updates on all three. I'm curious as to what kind of trouble I might get into. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I'm Novice/Merchant/Surveyor, if it makes a difference.

CMDR Vin Delanos here. Had a heck of a time tonight. Here's my after action report for 2016.06.08

Despite there being a good chunk of metal mining missions on the boards, I decided to change it up and run my salvage contracts. Picked up the mining missions, then switched over to my combat rig. With 16 units of space, it had enough capacity to cover all three contracts. All were in my local system, so this should be cake, right?

Boosted out of the station and ran a scan. I expected three mission updates but only got one. No problems, the target was close and I was on my way. Located the objective and disengaged... this was sweet -- I dropped into the orbital cruise of a dank little moon. Found the experimental chemicals the client was looking for, and packed it in. Got a call about a delivery redirect -- 75k to move the goods a few sectors over. No problem, I'm game.

Scanning on my way to the star, wondering where my other salvages are. I dropped into a random USS, just in case. No mission salvage, but I did pick up some proto alloys, which for me were newly discovered. Pushed it back into SC and head for the local nav beacon.

Got scanned while scanning the beacon. I prepped jump to next sector, but got a pass from the guy, so I cancelled and went back to SC. Dropped in open space to read my mission updates. Both targets at the sister moon of the one I just came from.

This next part was cool -- I forgot that these were both surface recoveries. I'd never done one before, so I was jazzed. I dropped in and picked up the signal. Cruised into it and pinpointed the first of my salvages.

Can I just pick this up with a limpet? Well, apparently, no. The limpet blew on impact and sent the escape pod flying through the air at about 100mph. Luckily, it survived the drop :)

Then I noticed something moving -- Skimmers at the site! I didn't expect that! I've got a cure for skimmers -- I swooped in real slow and cool, and took them out with beams and multi-cannons. Picked up 1k bounty each, which was nice. Funny thing, my first burst I still had that escape pod targeted, and my multi-cannons shot right at it.... that's got to be the luckiest escape pod pilot ever :)

Set down and started picking up salvage... aside from my objective, I didn't realize that there was so much cool stuff to salvage! Great sell prices on it, too. I even managed to pick up my second mession objective (some components of some kind) at the same site. Kept scooping stuff up until my Cobra was full. I used to dislike my SRV. Now I can't wait to pick up some more surface missions.

Finally , I prepped and jumped to my reward system for the surface recoveries. I laid straight out for the pirate ourpost, and got a message to return in time for 100k bonus. No problem! Vin Delanos is a pro, he's got this! Unfortunately, I paid too much attention to my ETA and didn't see the interdict warning. Got pulled out of SC in literally 2 seconds! It was like "1...2...you're out of supercruise, bro!"

Now that's a bummer, because it's going to make it harder to jump out! Had I not been laden with cargo, I'd have turned and fought. But I wanted out and so tried the turn and thrust tactic. It worked, at first, but I couldn't maintain it (maybe because of FA?), and I started taking shield damage. 10 seconds out, and shields are going down. I start cork-screwing to minimize the damage. Finally I hit FSD, but realize I'm still locked on the local outpost. I quickly target the nearest sector and re-engage! Just in time, it felt like, too. I jumped out with no sheilds and 22% hull damage. Whoever those two guys were, they were out for murder! In their defense, I was carrying some pretty "tasty cargo", so I was proabably hard to pass up :) Security showed up just before the jump and handed out some stern warnings. Thanks, Security.

So I jump out to next sector, then jump back in. This time, I took a detour and swung wide, moving out of the standard traffic lane. Made it to reward outpost intact with no interruptions, turned in and made a good profit on salvage. Luckily, this outpost had refuel/repair/restock. This place also had gold for a great price, but I didn't want to risk it. I wanted to turn this last bit of haulage in at the alternate drop-off.

Offloaded all but my last haulage, turned in my skimmer bounties, and got all fixed up. Headed out for the final reward sector.

This place looked like a dirty little outpost at the edge of a high security sector. When I arrived, I booked it for the objective, but again swung wide to try to avoid attention since the sector had a decent population and high security.

Made it without any interruptions, and turned in for a 75k bonus.

What a blast I had tonight! Did I make as much as I would have mining? Not at all. Did I have more fun? Most definitely! Whoever those guys were that interdicted me, they gave me a pretty good lashing, but I wasn't fighting back and was just trying to keep alive until I could get my FSD to cool down. I'm sure there will be more opportunities do defend myself in the future. Also, after jumping back into sector, I expected to hear from them again, but nothing.

What a gem of a game. I can't wait to get back in the cockpit!

Vin Delanos, out.

P.S. Got interdicted heading home, with nothing in my hold but limpets. These guys gave me no warning. I was about 2Mm out from base, and they popped out of nowhere and yanked me out of supercruise. I submitted, jumped to next sector, then back in and made it home with no further issues.

Might be some "local trouble" but nothing the Cobra can't Brave Sir Robin away from.

And even if you do get some action, usually with High Security, the local law enforcement are Johnny-On-The-Spot and pop in to assist. I have been saved numerous times in my Sidey that way.

Edit - I also have taken my Sidey to Mod it a bit. The Reinforced Shield Grade 1 and Shield Booster Augment Grade 2 are very worthy things to go after. Besides the Multi-Cannon and FSD jumprange.

Brave Sir Robin ran away... bravely ran away away.

Quick, someone is having "fun" in Elite: Dangerous, get 'im! The CMDR is clearly mistaken because the game is awful and everything is broken and oh the huge manatee. Or something.

Also good choice of ride; nothing says "later, suckas!" better than the minty fresh wake of a recently exited cobra mk 3. :)

Thanks folks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I just got wasted on a tiny little beer run! (Ha - no pun intended). But after looking at my "combat" rig more closely, I realized it wasn't quite as optimized for combat as it could be. Now it is... and I'm gonna git that sucker next time

Totally enjoyed that, Well played and well told CMDR. Reminded me a lot of many of my first missions. I know the word 'Random' is a bit of a four letter word atm in the ED universe, but sometimes that little bit of random (interdiction, close encounter, changed delivery location) can make all the difference.

BTW sounds like that poor escape pod occupant needs to be buying some lottery tickets.. ;)

Would never have thought to try a collector limpet on a ground recovery... shame that didn't work.[knocked out]

Haven't done a lot of ground recovery missions since 2.1, might be my play mode for the next couple of days to see whats new i think.

But, I have to admit -- the best part was watching it not work :) Finally made it back to port with my 8 units of beer. Same guy showed up and zinged me outside the station, so he was well taken care of as I docked.

Got disconnected by the maintenance update as I hovered over the landing pad :D
