I own the original FSX and I installed it on my new laptop. Unfortunately I am no longer able to find the two service packs for this game. Is there still an active community supporting FSX (planes, scenery, mods, etc), and if so, do they have these two files on their server?
FSX works without the updates, but I believe the updates (particularly SP2) adds extra graphics support as well as perhaps threading support. I'm definitely hitting software-defined constraints on my laptop, and I'm thinking SP2 might get me a little more performance. I have read somewhere there is only so much I can expect out of FSX because it's a 32 bit program. Shame that, seeing this is a game that was close to impossible to run at max settings and decent framerate (at least in the cities) on the hardware it was designed for.
I know that I could buy FSX from Steam and get an updated version, IIRC that is. I don't want to buy it twice, so I've got X-Plane on my wishlist. And there's also Flight Simulator 2020, which looks amazing. I just want to play around a bit with the FSX I own, which includes the SPs and some 3rd party free mods.
