Current Equipment Transfer To New Ship?

Hey guys.

So I've upgraded my Sidewinder enough to have set me back probably about 80k. I have improved powerplant distributors, life support, shields, weapons, armor, you name it. Now, I think it might be time for me to move on to perhaps a new ship. I don't have much in the bank, but to my surprise the Eagle is very very cheap. However, if I purchase a new Eagle, I'd like to use my old guns, shields, ect ect.

Is it possible to transfer the improved equipment from my Sidewinder to my new Eagle if I do end up buying it? I fiddled around with the menus a little bit and I didn't really see anything super obvious. To me, it appears that all I can do is possibly sell my Sidewinder and everything attached to it, or just store it and pay full price for the Eagle.

Nope. not to my knowledge.

Wow, that's kind of bull...So not only do I have to pay the full price for the new ship, but I have to re-purchase over 80K worth of equipment I already own?! That's really harsh. I wish it was more like Freelancer where you could strip ships down to almost the bulkheads and then refit them as needed. Reusing equipment is much easier on the wallet.

If you buy the new ship and switch to your old one and sell all the components off you can see your stuff in the Buyback list for a while when you switch back to the new one.

I do this to transfer weapons and hard to find items like A grade FSDs all the time when I switch ships.

Before ditching a ship you should get into the habit of downgrading/selling off all the insides first anyway. Because if you just sell or trade in the ship you lose 10% off the total value of the ship and everything inside it. If you strip it first you get full value back for all the insides, the upgrades typically cost 5-10x what the ship's hull does so it's worth the extra effort.

This is brilliant! Thank you so much for this advice, I'll give it a shot, if I finally decide on switching to the Eagle or not. I like that it's better in maneuverability, weapons hardpoints, and shields, but the fact that it is actually LESS armored than my Sidewinder is a bit frightening. I already have trouble surviving encounters with players in my Sidewinder, usually getting 1 or 2 shotted by Vipers, Eagles, and Cobras...So I couldn't imagine having even less hull strength. Of course, I am only mounting D class shields and the like...
