Cussing In Elite Dangerous

My Father was a Sailor (Chief Engineer) I knew all the rude words by the age of 7. :)

Kids - Solo mode, unless you want them to ask awkward questions over dinner ;)

I'd like to see cussing in ED, particularly once we can walk around stations - it'd add atmosphere to less salubrious locales.

That being said, it wouldn't be unreasonable for language to have evolved in the next 1300 years to a point where their cuss words are so far removed from ours that while the connotation is there, the actual words are not offensive (to our 21st century sensibilities).

It should keep both ends of the spectrum from butting heads over the fence.

EDIT - if this is in reference to commanders and communications, a swear filter - prevalent in online games, is the best solution you're likely to see. The onus should be on the parents to be responsible for what their children are exposed to, not society to adapt to suit irresponsible parents.

Well, there is a whole system in the game named KUK. In my languange this exactly is the baddest word for the male hose.
I laughed hard when there was a faction in the system named Order of KUK.

Nastiest form of Cussing

Its not just the game that you have to watch P's and Q's... this forum itself is worse!

I cannot believe in this day and age you can't even say ****, **** or even **** in an open forum! In fact you can't even say ******* which in itself is ******* rediculous!

I once posted a reply that generlised a group of people as impatient ******* (which in itself is nowhere near as bad as ***** or ***** or even ********). However not only did it auto censor my word (and I got a warning) but the mod even then changed the word in my post to something like "Fools". I honestly could not ******* ******* believe it!

flibberflops your post has more stars than the backdrop of the system i just warped into.
don't think you will see me swearing on here or in game, though a "filter chat" or "kiddy mode" option might help (this is a game that can be marketed towards kids after all, isn't it? ~recalling his recent narcotics run~)

I have come to terms with it. How hard is it to use a better adjective.

The mods have to set some rules it does not seem over bearing

Keep it away from our CHILDREN!!!! \o/ :eek::eek:

This is a game involving murdering criminals or innocents in the vast vacuum of space and managing political power
None of the above characteristics of the game suggests that it is for children, and as such people will not hold their tongue to avoid offending a minority.

If you are concerned with such events, avoid subjecting your children to M rated games.

To be honest, I want to see censorship reduced. It's ridiculous. There isn't a single teenager of which I've met that doesn't employ the entire range of foul language, and quite frankly if a young child can play ED, they're almost certainly educated enough to understand the context of profanities. My main irritation though is this: If you're concerned with your children being exposed to such things - don't expect the world to change for your convenience, take more of an active role as a parent - and if it's not about the kids and family, then what the ******* **** is this?!

...
By all means draw the line at bullying, racism, etc (anything which is detrimental to people's well-being), but not foul language. It's a form of expression.

The censorship in this forum and game is comical.

I'd provide examples and explain why I have come to this conclusion, but I think pretty much everyone in the player base knows this to be true, so what's the point.
