Custom ship upgrades

Would the ability to have custom upgrades for ships be something worthwhile.
For example merge two compartments into one large one, or the opposite convert large into two smaller.
Add extra hard points onto hull.
It would be something quite expensive to do and/or only allowed at some illegal chop shop, or as a high tier level reward.

Sorry buddy, this ain't Star Citizen. FD wants you to fit into the square shaped holes using square shaped pegs. Forget about having the ability to be creative. You're going to play their game the way they want you to play it, and like it!

But yeah, I'm all for customization in any game. But nope. Won't happen here. This is the no fun zone ;) For instance, I would love to be able to give my ships custom paint jobs or whatever, but I'm stuck to using what FD designs. So oh well.

It could even be realistic were a hard point falls off in combat as the weld job was dodgy and all your parking change gets stolen.
