It's getting silent about the Cutter.
So I thought let's make a Poll ;-)

Ok, seriously, I really wonder.
I had mine since Patch day but only outfitted as a pure Trader, 'cause I can't think - with that drift and slow turnings - it can be made to something other.

This is my Trading build: coriolis.io-Link
perhaps I'm changing it to a CombatTrading build like this: coriolis.io-Link

It's doing it's Job in a great luxury way (and with great Profit mind you). I haven't done trading since my Python days as I never liked the Anaconda much.

I really like that ship. As a Trader. But... shouldn't it be capable of doing more?

So how do you use your Cutter?
Please share your outfittings...

thanx

I also outfit my Cutter for trading. And I don't even use it, because I don't trade anymore. I keep it just because I want it so much since I saw first concepts, but I was disappointed when I finaly got it. Maneuverability is just awful.

I actualy don't like any Empire ships... And that's sad. Only maybe Courier is pretty fun to fly.

Corvette on the other hand is just amazing combat ship.

Please add 'office admin work simulator' to the poll. Not even the billions flowing each time you press the 'sell' button helps to make this pig enjoyable.

Trade is broken in that A-B-A is the best thing to do, and that's what the Cutter will be doing.

The most fun this ship gives is avoiding scraping something on docking. Or forgetting to get permission and wondering why A8 thrusters in full reverse can't force back the sidewinder that's behind you.

Good point CMDR, I was thinking about this yesterday.

I brought mine the day Horizons launched after saving enough credits for it, but to be honest I think I've used it maybe 4 times! Half a day's trading here and there, and took it to a few planets, that's it so far.
Mine is also kitted out for trading, but with me running 'Deep sea Trawling Hauls' (as I like to call it) with the Billy Rowney out of Robigo, I'm making way more money than I could with the Cutter! Plus it's more fun than grinding a trade loop all day!
Plus I'm fully allied with Robigo factions now.

I did think of selling it yesterday, shock horror, but I just can't bring myself to do it....all those months of grinding rank and credits for it!

Can't find my Coriolis link right now, but it's D rated apart from A rated FSD, no weapons, 2 chaff, and 720 cargo.

J

I tried trading for a few hours in it but the trade spec was even more painful to fly than 'a' spec in Beta .... now working on my Fed rank so that when some new C4 weapons come out i'll get one...
I'm back in my conda having FUN!!!!

Haha, YES absolutely, I'm conditioned to boost to station when jumping in.... o_O .... hey... why's that station mooooooooving ?!!!!
that drift.... not only once I drifted to the very outside end of the station when doing that ;-)

Now A-B-A is indeed my doing in that ship, but abit "immersion-rping" looking around in this ship.... it's beautiful. yeah, I want it.... in RL!
(I'm doing this 'cause I need that cash for the corvette...)

Mine is parked up, as I am not trading at the mo.

Lovely ship too and I do enjoy flying it, despite its short comings.

Thinking of going mining in it at some point.

Come to think of it, I used mine in this config 3 times in 2 CGs ------>

The slot 4 had a second collector installed for faster loading on the last run.

Mine is parked as well.

Trading seems to have a few months where it's going well, then it goes to pot for a few months, then back up again.

We seem to be in another dip so I'm leaving it gathering dust for now...

I have used mine since 2.0 for mining and it's paid for itself after 9 runs with 576 cargo..I use some of the 3P's and Osmium, about 50%-80% on mining missions so runs can net from 12mil -37mil all down to how much I want to rotate the board with different modes. i like it alot and will use it for some time to come, also love the look :)

mining load out.

PS ..I have 3 friends that do the same in Cutter's

I wanted to vote twice. Pure trader and Collecting dust.

I set it up for full cargo and ran it a dozen or twenty runs and then parked it waiting for the next big trading CG.

With the FDL as a luxury BH-Ship this is now the LuxuryTrader ;-)
Best thing is: I've gifted E-D to a friend this XMas, we winged up and he escorted me in his little Sidey for about two hours getting nearly one million in Trade dividends then outfitting his first Cobra III so we could do some REAL STUFF ;-)
(I needed multiple weeks back in January 2015 to get to Cobra MKIII)

I don't have one (probably won't ever, I prefer combat and smuggling) but man, that's a crazy trader. You could even sacrifice shields and trade a huge amount more (I know, I like a risk).

Do trade routes even withstand a constant barrage from that beast?

haha, na, not really, I can do 5-7 runs then most (of my known/used) routes beginning to drain (-10% up to -20% profit)
BUT after that amount of runs (1,5 hours) I also do need to do something different... (I'm not a trader per se)

OK that restores some of my faith hehe. Excellent short term profit but requires constant route seeking to last. Yeh, I get you. I traded up to Tycoon and probably won't ever do it again, even for 10m/h+.

Still, it baffles me as to why FD gave it so many internals considering it's supposed to be a military combat vessel. But then we have gone over this in beta enough.

I smuggled in it for a bit, got elite, made a couple videos on it.
Its fulfilled its intended purpose as a warship, oops I mean trade ship.
It's since been shelved.

to date my biggest complaint and disappointment in elite, the cutter.

You can't sacrifice shields as only a literally 100% pitch perfect docking works (without losing a bit of shield bar). Even perfectly lined up, a little throttle back and you are scraping because the thing changes angle. Not to mention fumbling a thruster inside the dock will take about 20 seconds, 3 loitering fines and a big thump/bounce to correct.

I don't mind if the thing was demanding to fly, ie hard to newcomers, but gave stunning results once you learned to compensate / counter act its foibles. But unfortunately it is simply a pig and getting to know it really gives little back. Just a tool to get to 'triple elite' if bragging rights are your motivation.

yes that's sadly true.
that's the reason I want some shield on (and the standard interdictor coming along every second Jump) and I use the docking computer as soon as I'm IN the station.

and as a warning: NEVER EVER try to dock this ship from a bigger angle as 20° outside the mail slot WITH A DC!! ;-)
You will get some very funny bouncing then...

Using mine as a ultra long haul Elite mission trader from Fehu, Aditi, Sirius colonies and 17 draconis... Raking in tons of cash, armed with 3 rail guns, two multi cannon turrets and two pulse lasers, dropping into combat zones and distress signals to mix things up. Prefer the view from the T9, but this beast is a joy to fly... Definitely not my main ship, it would be hard to get me out of a Python full time.

All that say's is you can't fly the ship, or you can't think ahead in a heavy ship... If I wasn't using it for combat I wouldn't even bother with shields
