Cutter in solo, engineering runs. Heat goes ballistic, massive internal damage

hello all,

this one is a bit weird.

Just bought prismatics and took them to get engineered at Laksak, no problem getting there or upgrading (the grind is strong in this one). Took off and went into super-cruise, no problem. Dropped out for a LGE above the planet. Did my stuff, turned and set up for hyper-jump, on tgt, lined up, hit the button. The temps rocketed and I also got the () and + signals flashing, fired off a heat sink, throttled back and cancelled HS jump. Heat stuck at 60/65%. Any attempt to throttle up made the heat go to high treble figures.

Silent running was not accidently selected and not massed locked. Eventually I noticed that if I turned toward the planet the temps dropped. I managed to creep over the top of the planet on quarter throttle and the temps returned to normal but with the symbols showing intermittently. It was almost like being too close to a star but I was not near one, no other NPC tgt indicators on the scope either, no under attack message....

Ended up with a big repair bill but better than losing the ship.

Next time this happens, turn Flight Assist Off. The extra heat is caused by your drives working automatically to reorient the ship in the planet's gravity, even if you don't want them to. Turning FA off stops this and reduces the heat buildup

Yes, this is due to cutter extreme drift and the work the thrusters have to do being amplified by planetary gravity just to keep it going in straight line. I think if you FA off you won't be able to line up with destination, so basically, just do everything slowly, wait for heat to drop below 60% and bingo.

Everytime someone says 'blew up trying to leave a planet', I always say 'Cutter, by any chance?', though I think the Beluga does it too. A Courier with Dirty Enhanced Drives and an Overcharged power plant struggles to leave any planet, lol.

:)

Also, don't ever try to conduct such a Hyperjump while over a Planet and flying inverted.

Approx. 30-45deg inverted seems the worst spot to be, that can easily overheat any Ship very quickly.
