Cutter weapons choice

Hi.

I'm currently running gimballed multicannons on the large and huge hardpoints on my cutter, but I was thinking of changing them to turrets.

This is PvE only for mainly cargo and some possible CZ stuff, and please don't suggest any other weapons, cos I like multis ;)

Suggestions?

Cheers.

I used to have turrets on my Cutter 'cos I figured it was supposed to be a trade-ship and I didn't want to get into serious fights with it.

Then it started annoying me that fights were more long-winded than they really should have been so I swapped to more useful weapons and I've never looked back.
Sure, the Cutter doesn't really need super-efficient weapons to kill stuff but, equally, there's no point in fitting less useful weapons just for the sake of it.

I know you said not to suggest other weapons but, y'know, I'm going to do that anyway. :p

The only turrets I have still got on my Cutter are a pair of C2 frag-turrets on the wings.
They're handy for punishing ships that get close and can out-turn you.

On my trade Cutter to blast some mission target Anacondas I have two c2 ImpHammers with feedback, two c2 long range pulse turrets and three gimballed overcharged Multis like you. No need to change to turrets.
Simple plan: reverski, kill the shields, kill the ship, scoop stuffz. Stuffz to haz is always welcome.

My current PvE build is a mix of all sorts. I'm using a fixed huge beam (great against large ships). 2 large PAs, which I'll be swapping out for Pacifiers as soon as they're unlocked. Not sure how they'll go, but they seem like they'll be fun. For the smaller ships (and helping out with larger ships) I've got efficient medium beam turrets on the wings to keep up the damage on shields and gimballed multis underneath. Fixed weapons seem a difficult choice at first, but there is something joyful about watching an NPC Anaconda crack open under sustained PA fire.

Or you could ignore all of that and go for a fixed/gimballed multicannon and probably do a better job of messing up the NPCs.

Personal opinion is that too many turrets may get a bit dull after a while, unless you enjoy the idea that you're the just the pilot and someone else is handling the guns.

Honestly a fixed hitscan setup with 2 Large and 1 Huge Pulse works. If you can aim with fixed.

Honestly, stick with your multicannon setup. It's the most versatile for what you are using the ship for.
I personally do not enjoy flying the cutter. It's far to fat and laggy for what I am used to.

Although I have run 2 Pacifiers, a Huge Beam and 4 Multicannons on it. Seemed to work ok.

I think your thread title is kinda misleading. You are asking for weapon loadout options then in the post you are asking if you should run Gimballed or Turrets? Make up your mind man!

That is really your call to make. That being said putting turrets on the largest guns on your ship just seems like a waste to me personally.

So really you are thinking about changing 2 large gimbal MC to turret MC, as you are only talking about the large and huge and there aren't huge turrets.

I once briefly had turrets in the 2 larges on a Cutter, and they cover a lot, so long as you turn the right way for them they'll be on target most all the time.

Seems a waste of two well aligned larges to me though, so I use the mediums on the wings for things like turrets or seekers, should I want them on a Cutter.

What do you have in your mediums?

Mediums are 4x turreted efficient vent beams to keep the heat down. See your point on the larges - I have gimballed atm. Just wondered what turrets would be like

@Replicant: Actually, I wasn't asking for loadout options across the board. All I was asking for was people's advice on turrets and gimballed, so my mind was already made up, thanks. Cheers for the input, though ;)

Thing is, a Cutter isn't quite in the same league and the T9/T10 so it can usually manage to turn and face the sort of ships which are a threat; things like annies, 'vettes or other Cutters.
That being the case, in combat you're usually going to be able to get your crosshairs onto your target and then you might as well pull a trigger and do a bit more damage instead of just sitting there, letting your turrets shoot and doing slightly less damage.

I once had a bunch of turreted cannons on my Cutter and it was kind of fun to fly in circles around a target while the cannons plonked away at it.
It was fun but it wasn't especially effective, especially if there was more than a couple of targets and the turrets ran out of ammo.
