CV version of OC and passengers

Hi,

So I just upgraded to a Cobra and think this will be my new home in the rift (have said that about every ship I've flown so far lol) Anyway, it got me thinking about the release version.

Does anyone know if we will be able to share the flightdeck with our friends/family? Take them for a ride? I was thinking I would buy another rift and a second powerful machine with it's own copy of ED, networked to my main PC. Is this just a silly dream or is anything like this planned by Oculus and FD in the future?

It's great watching my friends freak out when they try it, would be even better if we could both be in the ship, not so concerned with us being able to see each others avatar, more a case of they can chill out in the passenger seat while I boost through the docking bay or navigate an asteroid field with assist off

Ive wondered something similar myself,and how cool that would be especially in Elite D!!

Ultimately I think multiplayer needs to happen in VR in this way as its a bit of a turn off for some people how singular the experience is at the moment.

Yep, this is definitely something that can be greatly enhanced by sharing the experience. Many home flight sims have something called shared cockpit, this can be done over a network quite easily with some aircraft, one person is flying the other handles the gear/MCP/radio's etc

I think its more the matter of software than OR. I mean if you have game with multiplayer and two pcs then you can just meet in VR. i see no problem with that. If that happens in Elite or not doesnt matter that much. There are gonna be more games with MP and OR support. Imagine taking your brother to a race in WRC car. You drive, hes reading you a map. All in VR. Possibilities are endless and once customer version is out I think so many people are gonna buy it that its gonna be interesting for developers to try new things.

Isn't there supposedly going to be an expansion pack / DLC / update where multiple people will be able to fly around in a ship? I could have swore I saw something that mentioned that.

Ditto - I guess its just a matter of time. I really hope so anyway, as the OP says meeting friends in my ship and taking voyages across space in VR with them would be plain awesome.

Yes, David Braben talked about this in some of the dev diaries (don't remember which one in particular though). It is definitely something they want to do and plan to look at as an expansion.

If not in Elite, Star Citizen is gonna have that fairly soon, so there's definitely gonna be places to go. Virtually.

My wife wants exactly this feature. To be able to sit in the chair next to me IRL and somehow enter the game to be sat in my copilot's seat in VR.

What would be interesting to see is one of these "space universes" become a social hub of sorts. Your group / guild / clan / alliance / business / whoever or whatever, all log into the game, fly to a designated port, then go to a meeting room and have the meeting, with the backdrop of the planet / stars..

That wold be pretty cool
