CV1 Arrived Today - How do I Play Elite Dangerous

OK, this is the most basic question of all time I guess.

My CV1 got delivered today, it's all installed and I've run various demos via the Oculus Store. All good so far.

Time to try Elite. Start Elite, put the headset on but all I see is a message saying, "Sorry, EliteDangerous64.exe is taking a while to load.....". I've tried several times and it's the same story each time.

Any helpful suggestions/advice greatly accepted.

Thanks in advance.

Also did you switch the to HMD(headphones) in the display settings in Elite Dangerous. You only need to check the box mentioned by JRohrer if you don't start ED from oculus home.

Thanks Guys. I checked out the support page and realised I needed to request an Oculus Key from Frontier.

I've done this now and am just downloading. Will try again after dinner!

Fingers crossed.

Richard

You can run it from the normal launcher, I always do. Never used a Steam or Oculus store version.

Make sure the headset is on and the Oculus store is up and you have gazed at (to confirm) their message.
Then launch Elite and set the 3D option (in Elite display settings) to HMD. If you want sound from the earphones you will currently need to change the windows playback device so the defualt is the Oculus headphones as Elite as yet does not autoswitch this (even with HMD headphones selected).

Hey, I've been looking at how to get ED running from the normal launcher for days now but I can't seem to get it working. Ive turned on "Unknown Sources" in oculus home and followed your steps so many times but the HMD option just isn't showing up under the 3D section. I've had ED working in Oculus Home but I'd really like to get it working with the normal launcher.

Any help? :(

I have a feeling that once you've switched your ED account over to use the Oculus Home store that you not be able to run ED through the regular launcher in VR. I could be wrong though.

Why do you want it working through the normal launcher though if it works through the Oculus Home library? You have to fire up Oculus Home first before using it through the standard launcher anyway, so in a sense you'd just be creating an extra step for yourself.

I only keep my ED account separate and run through the standard Frontier launcher because I don't want my account tied to any other service like Steam or Oculus Home.

Hi also check the following:

Your CV1 is plugged into the same graphics card as the main monitor
Your CV1 is plugged directly into an HDMI port (not through an adaptor).

Just to eliminate stuff as both of these caused me issues, even though there are circumstances where both work fine.

It can be run from either. Think you may need to run it from the normal launcher if you wanted to play the next beta.
