Your ok with that price, i think it's way too much and unless any other company thats making VR sells them a lot cheap like £250 to £350 then VR been killed before it even gets a start, and the £499 is the US price it will be a lot more in Europe, im sure somthing like £800

The price is fine if the quality of their optics and latency is as they suggest it to be. It won't kill VR at all if you've tried it VR changes everything. The first shipment has already sold out. No idea of the sales geography though.

Yikes no thanks, having 2 mobile phone screens magnified on top of my eyes. Reading from tablets can damage your eyes imagine what the these VR headsets do?

I have a DK2 and was waiting for this, but that's too expensive. They're acting as if they don't have any competition, which could be a fatal mistake for them.

$599 US pricing.

Ugh,,,,,, too high.

Not saying the price is too high for what the product is.

Just too high for my "I want that" budget,,,,,,

I think they have priced it to keep it available to only a very small subset of those with the PC hardware to run it, very sensibly imo. There is no competition, they can set the market and simply react in 6 to 9 months if they need to. I think VR is great but to me its still 12 to 24 months away from being at a point where its worth my money, plus right now the only game I play where it will matter is ED and with the way ED is going that may not be for much longer :( Giving it to all KS backers is genius (was it part of backing it?) as that means they get all that good will and viral spread all over again with an almost locked in crowd for the next version

Well I believe with this surprise price point they have effectively killed any goodwill they may have gotten from the free KS backer giveaway. I agree the price is not inherently "too high" as a first-to-market wundertoy. However the fact is they telegraphed the price as being around 350 dollars for 3 years. The price is effectively double that and was only revealed the second pre orders went live - suggesting they want to mitigate the stickershock with the first rush of consumer adrenaline.

It's a PR disaster in fact. It remains to be seen if it will be a business one, and if Oculus will be the betamax to the Vive's VHS.

I had been planning on getting a Rift, but In ireland it will cost me more than my PC did (which runs an i5 with a GTX970 and 16gb of DDR3).
If a vive is a similar or just slightler higher price, I will get that instead, since it sports full motion tracking.

Really? HTC, Steam, Sony, Samsung, Microsoft, Fove, Zeiss, Avegant, and Razer off the top of my head are all looking to release VR in 2016.

Im blaming the Facebook overlords for the price, these are the people who wanted to charge people for talking to someone who wasnt on your friends list and other stuff, now they own OCULUS RIFT and be the first on the market they are going to milk this until somthing comes along thats a lot cheaper, im just hoping steam & HTC take the brave step and bring VR into a price range of a normal working family wages, because lets face it Microsoft love money
