CV1 resolution

Can anyone that owns a CV1 tell me/us if the resolution and quality of image is better than the DK2...apart from the glare and smear of course. Currently with the 1920x1080 resolution I have and not being able to use SS the image is pretty blurry. If the CV1 has a similar resolution it would certainly feel like a step backwards even if the tracking is better.

The resolution is slightly higher but from what I hear the new Fresnel lenses pretty much eliminate the screen door effect.

TBH I'm more or less satisfied with the resolution of the DK2, higher would be nice but the tech isn't far enough along yet so it's just not possible right now, I mean, we are talking about a custom panel specifically for VR here, the DK2 was a re-purposed phone screen and there is no real need in the mobile phone space to improve resolution any further.

I'm mainly looking forward to the enhanced tracking and comfort levels, the DK2 is frankly heavy and the lenses dig in to my nose.

I just got mine tonight, might take a little while to get all the software updated and working though. I haven't even turned on the gaming PC since I stopped using the DK2 except to play Stardew Valley so everything's out of date again.

DK2 resolution is 960x1080 per eye (1,036,800 pixels)
CV1 resolution is 1080x1200 per eye (1,296,000 pixels)

So in theory, the CV1 is displaying a 25% sharper image on raw pixel count alone.

won't report in today, the latest nvidia driver installer is rebooting my computer and I now have no graphics card driver installed whatsoever with no way to install one. I guess my oculus will sit in the box until the next driver update

I should probably be a lot more angry than I am but I just don't have anything left to yell at nvidia, it has all been said. Their drivers are lower than garbage

known issue apparently, the internet is full of warnings not to install the 364.72 drivers under any circumstances and say they may damage your PC

rollback doesn't work either, says no compatible graphics card found

feelin' real good about getting these 980ti cards right about now

The technology is already out :) My phone from two years ago has 2k display. There are consumer phones with 4k displays out right now...
Good luck playing lots of new games at 90+fps rendering two eyes at that rez though.

Managed to get the drivers updated to the latest version by removing my second video card.

There is no smear, whatsoever on the CV. The lens glare is way worse than you will believe until you see it, but it's not always a problem. Sometimes it blows up in your face though and you're just like "w.t.f." and can't see anything, especially when a menu is on the left or right side of your vision and the orange option selector lights up.

Performance is drastically improved over the DK2.

The resolution is high enough that I now require glasses inside the headset to make out text clearly. All text is clearly visible at all times.

The spacing between the lenses and the forehead guard is not deep enough, and I kept wanting an 1/8" more clearance. Looking forward to a kit that increases the depth of the headset.

It was too tight on my head and I got a headache from that I think. Might have been the glare. I definitely got more nauseous using the DK2 for the first time, 100%. I'm eating now, no problem, but I definitely have a headache and that is a rare thing for me. I think it won't be difficult to overcome that and the EXTREMELY GRUELING setup probably contributed, especially with me taking the headset on and off repeatedly.

364.72 working fine for me! (I think Nvidia is great never had issue and they're always on top of VR which I appreciate)

The SDE is eliminated because of the OLED panel having a high fill rate. The fresnel lenses are just thinner, lighter, and provide clearer focus on the edges of your vision.

If all you care about is resolution, then yes. But those 2k/4k panels have low refresh rates and bad SDE. You can't compare a single spec, you need to look at the big picture.

It's a bit like complaining about a 1080p 120Hz OLED TV because you can buy a 4k 60Hz LCD TV for cheaper.

Quality of image when comparing CV1 to DK2 on a 10 point scale where a 10 would be perfect sustained readability for a person with 20/20 vision would put the DK2 below a 5, and the CV1 comes in at roughly a 8. That being said, I would grade the DK1 at around 2 or 3. I can read (in RL) very tiny text pretty far away and have natural 20/20 vision.

SDE is essentially gone. Smear is gone. Choppiness gone....

<<whispering>> the lens glare was SUCH a disappointment. :(

I did some videos about it today, go check them out on youtube or my twitch. http://twitch.tv/cmdr_captainoculus
