Cv1 since April. GTX 980 Ti full ultra had no Judder until today. What's up?

Been playing Elite with a dk2 for a year and my cv1 for a couple months, so I have pretty heavy vr experience.

My 980 ti and cv1 combo has never had experienced Judder in a Res..... Ever. All settings ultra and I run the resolution at 3800x2600 or wharever that one is. No super sampling. All ultra. Can cruise around and mine or combat in a res.... All day long perfectly..... Until today. Dunno why but I hard moderate Judder on every setting.

I'm wondering if it is the new Nvidia patch from today.... But then even when lowering everything to low I STILL got the same exact moderate Judder.

Any ideas fellow vr peeps?

Damn, I just updated. Havent yet played to test.

CV1 arriving today so DK2 packed up - will give it a go later with the CV1

Yep Nvidia and/or Vive update, which also happen yesterday.

Interesting note, in Steam VR "renderTargetMultiplier": 1.60", and when I checked after updates ""renderTargetMultiplier": 1.60000000000001" (Number of 0 after 6 aprox. but alot more than when 1).

It did that before the update - presumably that value is converted to a floating point number somewhere, and 1.6 can't be represented exactly as a float.

So are you saying that since the Steam VR update and the nVidia your performance has got worse? I've only just got my performance where I want it (upgrading to 16gig of faster ram made a huge difference)

Well ED acting odd last night, but I have not had change to change all settings again. I noticed this as I was logging out for the evening.

It always surprises me, that some update their GPU drivers every chance they get. I am still using NVidia 364.72 as there was a graphics glitch introduced in the next driver that caused texture drop outs in some games. I see no reason to move up my driver at this time as everything is working great. "If it ain't broke."

Having used an AMD card for the last couple of years, I entirely agree. New drivers always broke something. But the Steam VR update will be done automatically so fingers crossed that it's not messed something up

Seemed to behave ok to me, maybe even slightly smoother in cruise but I'm not going to have to bet any on that.

It did however NOT fix the damn twinkling around the edges so I'm downgrading today.

364.72 you say. Might as well try that pack :p

Well everyone. I am quite bummed, to say the least. Not only am I getting Judder regardlesm of how low I lower the graphics and/or resolution, I am also now experiencing Judder in Adrift....which I never did. Something is happening and I cannot figure out what it is. Completely lost.

I've tried rolling back to the prior nvidia patch. Nothing. System Restore to 3 days ago when all was fine. Nothing.

Lost. Please share any ideas people. Thank you

Check in device manager and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks next to the sensor.

I had mine do this, but as it was still working I never knew. I only found out when I looked in the Oculus app under devices and noticed it said it was connected to usb2.0 although I only have usb3.0

I unplugged it and on reinserting the yellow exclamation went away and oculus reported usb3.0 correctly too.

Video card getting too warm? Check dust etc on fan.

Hello

I got my Rift CV1 yesterday. I've not installed a nVidia patch recently. I have an EVGA GTX 970 4gb card. My issues are:
  1. Occasional judder. I've noticed that when my hand is in front of the sensor, it always judders. Therefore a potential fix is to move the sensor to a more visible location. The judder is however only really noticable in ED.
  2. God rays. I need to use glasses for long sighted vision, so I cannot move the lenses closer to my eyes. However, correct positioning of the CV1 helps to reduce this.
  3. No sound in ED, but there is sound in every other app in the CV1. I've read somewhere that a patch is on the way. However, running ED from the Oculus home fixes this now. Frontier Developments allow existing users to claim an Oculus key. Go to the FD site, log into your account, and go to https://www.frontierstore.net/frontier_partnerkeys/

This may have already been mentioned before, but I thought I'd share my thoughts.

I used to have a lot of faith in nVidia updates and basically just took them without thinking. However, just after 364.72 (I think) there was an update which caused people a lot of trouble (BSOD and the like) so I rolled back. Then the one after that was a hastily rolled out beta to fixed the previous one but from all account that too was pretty flaky. Ever since then I've been VERY wary of blindly taking nVidia updates (since my system is working VERY nicely as it is thank you very much). Each time there's an update I tend to wait about a week and then check various nVidia driver and ED forums and the like just to see what the buzz is. If everyone was screaming "OMG this is the most amazing driver update, sooo stable and its made ED run a lot smoother" then I'd take it ... sadly this rarely seems to be the case.

P.S. I guess if you have a 1070 or 1080 then it's not so simple since a lot of the changes in recent updates will be to do with finding and fixing issues with these cards which are still pretty new.

Ok guys, things are improving. The Climb is perfect, Eve Valkyrie Perfect, ED really good except for in Ice Resource Extractions and when I krank the wheel to the left or right. That has been most of the problem in ED lately was not so much Judder, but when I turn my x52 hard to the left or right planets, RES, etc would "skip" a bit. So I should not of been calling it Judder....more like, skipping when turning hard....anyone else have that a bit?

Thanks

You are right about 364.72. I rolled back to this after the next driver created graphics dropouts in games like Crysis. I don't know what Nvidia did, but they broke something that has carried forward in their drivers. I have had zero issues with 364.72 and see no reason to update at this time. As I have said before "if it ain't broke -don't fix it"

Yes, I've been getting skipping or "external stammer" since ED implemented 1.3 in March. First in my DK2 ( and ED support wouldn't have a bar of my enquiry because the "DK2 is was not supported by oculus") and now today in my CV1.
