Lately, I flew in my spaceship, saw an Anaconda and thought, we are living in the year 3304
what happend to cybersecurity, why am I not able to hack this ship?

Maybe an unrealistic wish, but what I miss is somekind of cyberwarfare.
What I am imagine something like this:

Attacker:

You are -for example- in stealth mode and get closer to your target.
While in range you are establish a connection with your Data Link Scanner and activate a hacking device.
When the connection is established, you can select and hack an individual module.

Open cargo and purge the inventory.
Deactivate the FSD module, therefore your Target can‘t get away easily.
Or even activate the self desctruction.

Each Modul has a certain level of security.
The higher the level, the difficulty is the hacking process.

hacking is done perhabs via a minigame(Multicrew?),
if successful -> the modul goes off.
if not -> connection lost, hacking cooldown and the target get a warning.

Target:

Hacking is subtil, some glitches in the HUD or your ship react strange.
Suddenly CONVAS is talking to you.
light goes on and off.
When this is the case and you notice a hacking attempt, then you can deactivate your data link scanner(it is not a modul yet, is it?)
You are save, but when the connection is successful, you can not easily cut the connection.

Of course you need a protection or counter-measures like firewall(delay the attack),
honeypots(You think it is the modul but if you hack this an EMP is released and your ship goes off / get damages) or even counter viruses?

In addition to that, hacking NPC / Station / Thargoids(?) give you classified logs, knowledge or simple a postion with a secret stash.

What do you guys think about this idea?

Hi

Cyber defense of ship-internal systems should hopefully be perfected in 3304. Commanders who can afford an Anaconda wouldn't like it, if their selfdestruct device was activated by a sidewinder. They paid a price high enough to be safe from this kind of joke.

Hacking interaction with other objects, on planet surfaces for instance, could be quite enjoyable.

You can hack. You use limpets. You have to use limpets because no-one in their right mind would create ship systems that can be remotely accessed and hacked. Space makes for a good closed system.
