CZ large Vs small ships

If you have the ranks, you may want to try the FAS and FGS. The FAS is surprisingly manoeuverable after the FDS and may be just the kind of firepower/nimbleness you're after. As for the FGS, not only does it pack up tons of firepower, but it can also carry a SLF. Both ships have core military slots too, that will markedly improve your survival.

This, loving the FAS balance of agility and firepower after becoming annoyed by the Vulture.

Not sure what your problem was with the Vulture because he sound exaclty like the ship you are asking for. Dominating CZs with that one since he got added to the game..

I barely lose the first ring in my engineered Vulture either...

Reading this over and over again, but not sure what I did wrong. Wouldn't consider me a totally bad fighter because with the FAS I just dominate CZs..
But with the Vulture kills were slow, and I was sooo fragile, two guys just shortly focusing at me meant I had to run, and running was hard because I had set the frameshift drive to lower priorities and could just boot it when I stowed weapons to have some boom... and seeing how fast I eat NPC Vultures with my FAS I would not step back to the other side ;)

What kind of setup are you Vulture guys running, and how much engineering please? Still love their sound when they are around me :D

The vulture's hull is pretty fragile, especially the canopy. You never want to lose your shields in it.

It's also only slow relative to other small ships. When it is facing a faster opponent, it can typically out manoeuvre them.

Throw a fixed cannon or PA on it. That'll make it fun and new.

You guys all talk like the engineering ain't no thing.
Maybe you do have that much time.
I was told Palin is reachable in a couple of days. So I started in early Feb and I've only just got Sirius.
I had some Modular Terminals, but had to ditch them for cargo space ages ago.

This thread is full of great suggestions under the bragging, but I'm a long way behind you mob.
Discovered ramming in my Vulture last night.

My question is: pips to shields or pips to engines?

Like am l ramming them with my shields or my hull?

(hull and shields are stock mil spec no engineering)

I've only unlocked a handful of engineers, so a mix of grade 3's and 5's, I ain't done Palin or Qwent!

I fight with 4 pips shields, 2 pip weapons in a High Res so either outturn bigger ships or outgun smaller ships would try go head on with me - and yes boost ramming is ace, so I do that with 4 shields, 2 engines (makes sure my shield doesn't take too much hit), then once engine recharged go back to 4-0-2

The Corvette is the nearest to CZ God-mode. You can break the ceasefire with it, so that all the enemy ships are against you and still stay there fighting them to get about 20 kills before you run out of SCBs. If you want a smaller ship, an engineered FDL can hold its own pretty well, and so can a Python, but I wouldn't call then God-mode.

Wow that is a cheap build! Can see how that would work.

park mother ship 20km away from fight deploy in fighter and tell mother ship to hold position.

enjoy battling it out battling it out like in serenity..... only no off mad max killers after you.

I love my Engineered FDL in a CZ, have a full Multi-cannon loadout, so trips are limited by ammo. And yes, totally agree it needs good Pip Management, lateral thrusters and awareness of where you are (after the 5th time of tank slapping an asteroid, you really concentrate on lateral movement). I find that 4 PIPs to engines are usually almost as good as turning off flight assist, and quicker to bring to bear, so have changed my style accordingly.

Agree it can be easy, so i tend to go for assassination missions; they seam to always be against Elite Corvettes at the moment, which are a challenge - but i guess that's what the FDL is for - a purpose built big game hunter. Surprisingly, PvE FDLs are easy, so I can only conclude that its the engineering (read Prof Palin) that makes the difference.

The difficulty of PvE ships IMHO is Corvette > FAS > Anaconda > Vulture > Python > Clipper > FDL > Anything else

FDLs + Engineering = Great Fun

Fully engineered FDL is totally overpowered in PvE CZ combat. Usually I don't lose even one full shield circle while using up all ammo.

FDL in CZ is actually too easy to be really fun.

There's trade offs, as mentioned, between the ships. Size, firepower.. nothing new there.

But RNGineering is a MUST. I can't take out any new ship without it. You're fighting with one hand tied behind your back if you aren't.

I tend to dislike ammunition reliant builds since it limits my loiter time. I'd prefer to do less DPS but have a longer time on target, so packhounds, torpedos, and railguns aren't in my builds. They work great if you want to run back to base every 20-30 minutes.

I agree with this. Flying isn't bad, but from a weapons/armor perspective...

Take MCs on a Viper or Cobra for instance, 2 small, 2 medium. All of the new hull hit points make killing High CZ ships annoyingly difficult if you don't have those MCs engineered.

That's going to be even worse with 2.3 isn't it? Bigger penalty for medium weapons.

I took a viper out the other day, damage was just way too low.

A properly engineered Anaconda is simply immortal in CZs. A guy once aggroed the entire instance in one fully turreted. After 10-15 minutes the NPCs started to run out of ammunition.
