CZ Special Ops and Something Else

1. Can someone please explain what's the significance of special ops ships?

2. I noticed when shooting some random ships that the red hull percentage changes to orange/yellow with three digits instead of two. What's that all about?

they show up sometimes in combat zones. it's one of the events combat zones can have. others are warzone correspondent or enemy captain.

basically they are a wing of strong elite npcs. they fly together and all have not just good engineering but also themed builds.

taking them all down does a chunk of progress in the cz. even taking any down offers some good progress. u have to be careful though because sometimes they'll all focus you and this wreck you pretty fast.

The three digit thing is corrosive damage from the yellow missiles.
Corrosive missiles in a normal CZ with ships? I've not seen any yellow missiles. Which ships have them and where do you get them from? I thought I was the only ship firing at them when this happens and all I have is pulse and beam lasers.

From the spec ops AspXs. Maybe the corrosive effect comes from other weapons too, but the triple digit effect you describe indicates corrosive damage.

Spec Ops are fun.

They are :)

In most medium CZs the extra scenario is simply four spec ops ships on each side. That means the opposing red & green NPCs are equal & the player tips the balance. I enjoy pushing them around, as you imply by getting them to target a higher threat than yourself.

CZs don't last as long as they used to pre-3.0 but building up a green pack and tearing the reds a new one can still be satisfying when it all comes together :)

CZs I've been in recently with the Spec Ops scenario totally rely on me to kill each enemy Spec Ops ship. My allied Spec Ops don't seem to whittle them down at all. But they are good fun!
