General / Off-Topic :D I’m so sick of the daily grind so I quit

my job. I’ve worked for the NHS for well over 30 freakin’ years and I’ve had enough, so I took early retirement.

I used to be a scientist, helping patients and diagnosing disease – but now I’m just a paper shuffling desk jockey. I thought one day… what would I rather be doing?
Answer – I wanna fly a spaceship - and now I have the chance! (I put that on my “reasons for leaving form” that the NHS give you when you want to escape).

So I handed my notice in a while back and I’m now retired and very happy. I have all the time in the world now to play as much Elite as I can get away with. I’m going to find a planet 5 000 light years away from Sol, with a nice climate and a beach, open a bar and just chill with explorers who are out this way.

Ps. There is no real point to this thread, passing the time to the download and I just had a bottle of wine and I like to gloat :D:D:D

When I was a teenager, I got drunk and fell off a building (as you do).

Did something to my leg. Whilst we waited for an X-Ray, me and my highly aggravated mother made 52 words out of the expression "F THE NHS", I am sure you can fill in the blanks. The queue for the x-ray was so large, other people were shouting suggestions.

No point to this post either, except to say, I hope you enjoy your retirement - and I am thankful for the times I have needed the NHS... :)

Thanks! - Enjoying it already :D

The NHS would be a lot better without politicians butting in and reforming it every 5 years!

Congrats on your perseverance in the NHS (my wife retired just last year). I too am now retired and I have wayyyyy too many things to do nowadays.
Grandchild minding.
Fixing up the property of my Son.
Learning to weld.
Building bicycles.
Resting up from 42 years of unbroken employment.

Go us retirees!!! Yeah!

Enjoy your time sir, you earned it. :)

Marak,
I'm surprised you're still sane after working there for thirty years. Also, I'm happy you have goals and plans for this game, perhaps one day you'll open an outpost at this place and serve drinks to thirsty commanders. :)

All the best, friend.
Shok.

Yeah!
It's funny though - It seems like I have LESS time to play now than when I was working!

Go figure...

Funny you should say that... a Professor friend of mine who's schedule was insane, and who has recently retired, can't find time to relax... :)

lol I empathise! Coming from a medical family myself, that 'escape' comment did indeed make me smile :D

A laudable goal, but do be sure to keep your science skills shiny and polished so you can check that the "nice climate" you find is indeed what it says it is...the Stellar Forge has been known to tell porkies from time to time ;)

Thanks Shok. (Never claimed to be sane though :p )

I fancy making enough money to buy an Orbis space station and moving it to some of the more scenic areas of the galaxy as a resort for tired commanders.

(Drinks will be expensive though...)

i too am retired ( not really my choice but ...meh it happened) and on the days that i am capable of doing things, i find that i literally havent enough hours in the day to get to all the things i need/want to do. maybe i need another job to put things back into their proper perspective.

oh well, i need to go help my neighbor with her horses... one has a stone bruised hoof. this ought to be fun.

I admit it - I fell for your despicable trap. Much rep for your service to the NHS ;)
