D-Scanner when charged, enables 1 or 2 more discoveries

When you enter a star system and new discoveries being collected - when it stops and engaging the D-Scanner, I found that most of the time 1 or 2 more items can being discovered. But not all the time.

I'm not referring to using the D-Scanner fully, just casually at supercruise in Analysis mode.

This should not be the case right ? as discoveries are all automatic. Or is it just me feeling this..

You only discover objects automatically in close vicinity to your position, like the star, asteroid clusters and maybe some close orbiting planets. The D-Scanner will then discover all stars in the system but any other objects outside your immediate discovery range will be unexplored.

Think the range for autodiscovery is something like 50ls
So if you pop in a M-Star system with orbits starting at 10-20 ls, you will discover first 1-3 planets just by being there, no honk at all

But then.. as I type the above, my ship supercruise quite a bit and all needs to be discovered should be done.. then just for curiosity I trigger the D-Scanner ... and pops up 2 more items !

The D-Scanner will pop stars no matter the distance, but nothing else except the number of bodies in the system

As you mentioned yourself in an earlier post, there is a passive detection range of about 30Ls in addition to the star discovery on honk.

No - you discover them because you have travelled to within the passive detection range. It has nothing to do with further "honks" of the disco scanner - a honk only detects the number of bodies and permits discovery of stars - passive range discovery is different.

I've found that the discovery scanner identifies only a few objects, but also says how many bodies in the system there actually is. It is then necessary to use the FSS to reveal the other planets in the system map.

Actually, I think it can be a bit annoying in that I've been to systems and used the discovery scanner and identified only a couple of planets. I've then revealed the rest using the FSS and found that some other commander has been to the system previously! I've wasted time uncovering planets that have previously been discovered, and yet am obliged to do it again as this is not revealed. I reckon this needs to be adjusted so that where systems have been previously scanned, the previously scanned objects become visible to save duplicate scans on the same system.
I think they are visible when you open the system map. If it's a virgin system, no objects except already discovered stars should be visible.
