:D - Set Keybind to 50% then just use Thrusters

All the stuff I've read and watched about Flight Assist on/off and getting used to power management seems to me to be resolved by one simple thing when in combat, Set Keybind to 50% Speed then just use Thrusters.

Yes this is against NPC and No I'm not that great a pilot, "Mostly Harmless" here.

However just using that tactic to stay within firing distance and opportunity works so easily. Obviously using all 6-degrees of movement with the trusters, not just lateral thrusters.

Discuss.

Seems valid.

I tried setting throttle to 0%, then FA off, but then found that I don't have much agility with it.

But when I set throttle to 50%, then activated FA off , it does appear to retain my agility for turning.

Stilll learning how to FA decently right now :D

You have variable turning speed and top speed depending on how many pips you have in engines, so if you have 0 pips in engines you're never gonna be able to stay close to even the slowest ship who has 4 pips in engines and boosting away from you.

That said, you're not far wrong in suggesting that you'll do pretty well with 50% speed and thruster control vs most NPC opponents. This is a good place to start in fact.

Yes the other things are valid to manage as and when appropriate, however this one thing gives you major and easy to manage workload, especially when you're just getting used to it.

I didn't know you could get Elite: Dangerous for the ZX Spectrum 48k

Cough!: It says ELITE was my second game on the ZX Spectrum. Not ELITE DANGEROUS. :D

Yes you're right I think. I personally got really good with my Power Distributor first and that helped a ton, but after I figured out the 50% throttle (which is easily *the* main thing) and then up and down thrusters as well, the game became a lot easier. ;)

I'd say

1) 50% throttle

and

2) probably Distributor and Thrusters are equal, depending on the ship.

it read as though elite dangerous would be the last game you buy for the spectrum..

Ah, thanks for that I was going round in circles as to what Kitiara was saying. Ha bloody ha, I'll get my coat.
